Does anyone know what level of compatibility can be expected from the new OS X in terms of 10.4 software? Should the majority of the 10.4 software be expected to work out of the box? Does 10.5 do anything drastically different that will cause problems with all the programs I know and love? I assume there will definitely be the odd program that doesn't work perfectly at first, but by in large, what is to be expected?

~90% I'd say. Obviously there will be some big standouts, like CS3 has been reported to sometimes work, sometimes not...

But most apps should be OK.

Most apps should be fine, as most developers have had plenty of access to 10.5 since WWDC 2006.

Leopard should be 100% backwards compatible with existing binaries.

No.

Many developers have already, are currently or will in the very near future update their binaries to make them compatible with Leopard.

But Leopard is compatible with about 90% or so of existing binaries. Not all of them. No way.

Disappointingly, two apps that I use on a daily basis are not quite ready:

PathFinder and Super Duper

Looks I'll be buying but not installing Leopard right away

hehe - most apps that are relatively popular like Pathfinder and SuperDuper will probably be updated pretty quickly I'd say.

Will it be possible to pop in my 10.4 CD (that came with my MacBook) and install the iLife apps onto my MacBook once I have 10.5 installed?

Also, anyone here have experience with VMWare Fusion and Leopard?
