Although I see that the consensus on these boards is that eBay is the best place for cheap hard drives and other peripherals, personally I'm not convinced. There is the occasional bargain, but they tend to be from individuals and consequently have lots of bids. The drives sold by companies on a 'dutch' basis, are not always the bargains they seem. I've been over to egghead.com where they have some great prices, but it 'seems' they are all for the peeeceeee world and not Macs. Anyone have any suggestions where the best place for good and cheap Mac drives is?

Egghead is good we just bought an IBM 9gb scsi at work for $207.
I got the Atlas III 18 gb at Transintl.com for $299 last month.
OtherWorld Computing also has good deals as well.

Are you looking for SCSI or IDE/ATA drives, because an IDE drive is an IDE drive is an IDE drive, PC or MAC the connectors etc, the dimensions, all standard.

Bang per buck currently in terms of Gigs per Dollar Seagate Barracuda IDE is top, Maxtor DiamondmaxPLus is second and IBM Deskstar is third.(Or so I read).

Where? Pick the device you want first, (Going for a drive solely on the basis of price is a risky business, isn't it?) then try any of the online price comparison sites:

Simply the best places to find great prices are mac-friendly sites. The first is http://www.macnn.com/deals and the second http://dealmac.com They are equally awesome and updated every weekday!
