I've made my shareware titles available for download in my mac.com iDisk's Public folder. Now I'd like to give a description of them with links from my home page, but iDisk doesn't work anything like other Web sites.

I've tried a relative link from index.html to "../Public/<filename.sit>" but that returns an error, as does "../<mylogin>/Public/<filename.sit>" and "http://homepage.mac.com/<mylogin>/Public/<filename.sit>."

Should this be possible? I don't want to duplicate all of the files in both directories, or the 20MB will soon be, effectively, 10MB.

try "http://homepage.mac.com/<yourlogin>/.Public/<filename.sit>
note the "period" before the Public..

Rick, the 'public' folder is only public through the file sharing home page, as far as I can tell. (anyone, feel free to correct me on that)

If you put all your pages and files in the 'sites' folder, relative links should work.
However I had a problem with linking into folders unless the folder name is a number and no letters are used.
Relative links into folders within these folders also seem to work without the folder name being a problem, so far for me, anyway.

<http://homepage.mac.com/<mylogin>/<#>/<filename.sit>
<http://homepage.mac.com/<mylogin>/<##>/<filename.sit>
should all work

<http://homepage.mac.com/<mylogin>/<#>/home.html
should be able to link to;
<http://homepage.mac.com/<mylogin>/<#>/<downloads>/<filename.sit>

although, http://homepage.mac.com/<mylogin>/<d...lename.sit>
probably wouldn't work

Only certain folders work - http://homepage.mac.com/username/.Pictures/name, does, while: http://homepage.mac.com/username/.Software/name, doesn't (I don't think).

Correct, the only folders accessable with the period before their name are the ones used by your iTools web page.

So the "Sites" folder is the only one accessable by normal linking, then "Pictures," "Public", and "Movies" are accessable by using the period trick.

Thanks, the period trick worked perfectly. I made the site <http://homepage.mac.com/graffix> in GoLive, and had to put the ".Public" folder in a <mylogin> folder ("graffix") at the same level as my "Sites" folder. Then everything linked fine.

BTW, my subfolders within the Sites folder seem to work fine, but they're all named in lower-case. Maybe caps and/or spaces cause problems...

Caps was the reason it wasn't working for me.
