i cant for the life of me get mandrake 8.0 to boot up on my new quicksilver g4. it works fine on my imac dv, but nothing will make the g4 work. it may be because of my monitor or my hard drive, i have an OLD multi scan 17" and a maxtor hard drive (i took the standard ibm one that came w/ it out). the monitor forced me to use the text installation and it looked like everything installed well but even after i set the boot device in in openfirmware i could not get it to boot into yaboot. please help me i really want linux
thinks in advance!

The framebuffer driver in the kernel is not capable of determining the exact type of display that is attached. Thus, it uses a standard resolution that most monitors are capable of functioning at. The TFT display is not capable of using these settings, and switches itself off.

It is possible to indicate the correct resolution to use, with the following Kernel parameter

17" Display (Monitor)

This might be helpful.

The next release of Mandrake-Linux for PPC should fix this problem.

you need to append this to the yaboot.conf file
