I recieved a new batterie yesterday and it seems that I was a little bit too stupid to install it carefully enough...
...just after I managed to open the case, I slipped and the connection cable for the headphones and cable remote tear off the motherboard!!

What now? Does anybody here know if this is something Apple (or someone else) can fix without paying almost as much as a new iPod?

Does anyone here have a broken 3G iPod and wants to sell the silver back??

Well, the cable is completely torn off the connector - I don't think that anyone will (be able to) solder it!

(I'll try to take a decent picture tonight)

Is the cable TORN, or did it just come off? Meaning is their a TEAR apparent?

There have been a lot of iPods I have fixed here recently that the cable just came unconnected from the device, or un-slotted.

That is easily fixable. But if the ribbon is actually TORN.. well...

The male connector is still plugged into the female connector on the motherboard - the cable is TORN!!
I don't even think that this is something that can be soldered because there are 8(?) really tiny cables that need to be re-attached and they seem to be too small to do that manually!

Except that they won't, because 1) He opened it, which voids the warranty, and 2) It's his fault it tore, not theirs.

Man that is great. This post made my day.

I was always wondering if you could buy separate parts.

Your iPod has now been saved.

Yeah, but 70 euros for the bloody connector? That's pretty pricey. Nearly enough to buy a new iPod mini. Add on what he paid for the battery, and he could just justify buying a new iPod.

Yeah, I know, no need to tell me that - I am just trying to forget what all of that did cost me...

If you would buy all single parts to build an iPod yourself, then this would be €675.-!
