Excellent point... there are all sorts of robots, we need to be accepting of them all, despite their differences. It really doens't matter if the robot is made out of metal, plastic, wood, cardboard, plexiglass, or styrophome - at the end of the day, and deep down inside them they are simply... robots. Just like we are all humans.

Salty, would you like it if I insisted that the only kind of chicken that exists is salty chicken? Like robots and humans, there are all sorts of different kinds of chicken. I accept this, I hope you do too.

Oh sorry... I will make sure to respect all robots regardless of them being made of Vampire, Air, Bombs, Bubbles, Centaurs, Clouds, Crashes, Gravity, Guts, Junk, or Knights... I will respect all of them.

Don't forget about robots that are made out of love... they are very special.

Thanks to Chuckit and Charles, I've gotten the MegaMan app to run completely faceless, in the background, unnoticed, and invoked by every user on a machine at login.

Can't wait for my "victim" to come back from his vacation...

So, can you hold down A+B to turn the stars into little birds?
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

Having checked it out pretty thoroughly now, I see a nifty little hack which could use a bit of improvement. Some thoughts:

1) The starfield is done with a simple QuickTime movie, which it scales to full-screen to provide the background. Doing it programatically with Quartz (or possibly even QuickDraw for that really retro chic?) might actually improve performance, particularly on older machines. I also suspect that you could vectorize the bejeezus out of such a modification, boosting performance still further. This is one of those times I really wish I was any good with graphics programming.

2) No "bird effect". If this is going to be a MM2-alike, it really needs a bird effect. That said, this hack would probably be much easier to do with the app using a QuickTime movie. Pop open CinePaint for FCP (or maybe even iMovie?) and paste in the sprites over the stars.

3) This would probably be better done as a prefPane (probably with a little daemon associated with it).

Luckily, he's Open-Sourced the thing. This helps. Maybe it'll finally motivate me to learn graphics programming once and for all.

Feh; beating Wood Man with the Metal Blade was only slightly less wimpy than using Crash Bombs. Real men used the Atomic Fire.n

That's exactly right! I think you're a little too close to these robots.... would you mind cutting open your arm so that we can see that you aren't a robot yourself, hiding among us?

Thanks!

This is quite possibly the coolest integration of pure nostalgia and the Mac OS interface ever.
