I am seriously thinking about getting one of these as biking to work is too long and this is more fun than the subway.

Does anyone know if you need a license to ride these things on the street? What class of vehicle would it be under?

Licenses, classes, and rules are determined by state and local laws in the US. Although you have not published a location, I would hazard a guess that you are in New York City by your reference to a subway and not an underground.

As the engine has less than one horsepower, it probably is legal and falls into a category defined by motor assisted bicycles. Ask your local state patrol or state attorney general's office. sam

i think it falls under the vehicle class of immasculating

EDIT: just realized that the scooter's top speed is 18mph, thats just about the same speed as riding a bicycle, i wouldn't say its that much of a time saver

Yeah, I was gonna say it looks kinda gay . . . but maybe SWG is ok with that?

No, I think having no taste and being a total geek will suffice.

Just about any class I can think of. It'd be right at the bottom (next to the Segway).

If you're serious about scooters, I'd think you'd be better off with something like this…

Think it falls in the "itty-bitty" class of vehicles.
Doesn't look too ergonomic; your foot pegs are under
your butt.

Actually Toronto, ON.

Since it isn't that fast I hope it falls under "toy" category, don't know if that means you have to use it on the sidewalk or if you can go on the road with it.

I had a look at that other site. I don't like the old Vespa look with your feet infront of you.

18 mph is kinda useless, and that scooter looks uncomfortable anyway. If you want a scooter, get a real scooter instead, such as this one:

The Metropolitan II gets 25 mph, although that's the restricted speed to make US moped requirements. You can get the previous model that uses a similar engine but gets up to 40 mph, which may mean requiring a licence though.

Personally, I want one of these:

Like I said, those even make me feel gay.

The one I chose doesn't need to be fast, it needs to get good milage, small and look cool.

I ride my bicycle faster than 18 mph sometimes, and even then the cars are zipping past me.

If I were to buy a scooter, I'd probably want a 125 cc one or something, but those require licences.

Anyways, I definitely wouldn't buy an ikoo without trying it first. Like I said, it looks like it would be uncomfortable, and the power of the thing doesn't impress.

I believe anything 60 km/h or under (I forget the cc's..) doesn't need anything more than a regular drivers license.

although I'm willing to bet that you wouldn't be able to take that on the road. Certainly not a safe idea.

About as cool as a scooter gets and it should still be low enough cc not to be considered a motorcycle.

Small wheels and streetcar tracks in Toronto? I wouldn't if I were you. It's scary enought to ride a bike.

This is what I was riding in Germany and Switzerland: Ciro Kickboard.
Haven't importet it yet to the US, but I was thinking about it for rides in big cities like NY.

I know. They make WAY better kickboards than websites. Ok with me, a good website doesn't help on the road.

These are kickboards , not scooters. Manual versions, at that.
I'm not implying this is a perfect alternative if you want to get around with something like a bike. It's just something different, and IMO, much better design that this "thing" you posted above.

Try your local adult bookstore. Not sure about the test driving part, though.

Someday someone will incorporate a magnetic levitation device into a skateboard. By then I would be long dead and gone. So nevermind this post.

Why don't you get a Zappy? It's less than half the price of the ikoo and looks better too. You can remove the seat and ride it like a normal scooter if you wanted to.

Speed: up to 17mph*
distance: up 18 miles*

* - Range will very significantly depending on hill grade, speed and rider weight

These were big in London about five years ago - lots of stockbrokers using them to zip around the city on. The craze lasted about six month, then they were gone again.

Indeed, but it's 400 cc.

At least the Morphous is only 249 cc.

If I were in the market for a scooter, I'd consider that.
