Remember the new iPods do not sync with firewire and you have to pay the shipping.

Interesting. Now I have to figure out which generation my iPod is... Let's see, it's a Photo iPod (or is it iPod Photo?) with a 60GB drive... I know! It's Thursday! No that's wrong. It's a 4G model, so I think it's firewire compatible.

Added: Yep. Mine is an "iPod with color display" or "iPod Photo" as listed here.

Well it will charge any iPod (except the shuffle) over firewire so might as well go for it.

I got suckered by this deal and also ordered this:

Hmmm I got one on impulse as was the intention, forgot it doesn't work with the current models (not a problem for me, but other family members with newer models maybe).

Instead of paying the $6 shipping for the PocketDock I just ordered one of these instead for the same price:

I already have a retractable Firewire one which I'll leave at work, and I also have a retractable dock connector to stereo plug one too. Both work great with my iPod mini.

One I could handle in my pocket, the other I could not.

Well, YMMV. For you it works since you probably have lots of Firewire cables where you take your iPod. For some people who deal with a lot of Windows machines, things may be different. Often times some have only 4-pin Firewire, and some have no Firewire at all. Having a small USB 2.0 cable can be much more practical. The retractable cable is quite compact too, and fits nicely in a pocket, but yeah, it's nowhere near as nice as a tiny adapter size-wise of course.

Meh. I had just ordered one of these Pocketdocks from the Apple Store for something like $12. I figured it was the best solution for charging either my wife's nano or my ancient 1G iPod from the same place (the 1G used to be hers, until I got her the nano. All you married fellows know what I mean. )

But I grabbed another one of these, anyway. They seem very useful, even if I can only use it with the nano for charging.

Hey, Severed Hand of Skywalker,
thanks for the tip! Very cool of you.

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

I've had two of these for a while for my 3G iPod. They're very handy.
I bought a USB/audio line out one last week for my 5G.
