There is no reason for this. The topic was both well covered and unchanged in the past year. The only thing that changed was Trump gave his thoughts on it. This is right-wing partisanship at its worst, and its terrifying.

Calling it right-wing partisanship implies the behavior is rooted in political philosophy rather than cult of personality.

Edit: "rooted in tribalism rather than cult of personality" is a better way to phrase that.

My peak confusion was a gaggle of Americans in Rome asking me for directions in broken Italian.

It's a good distinction but what is the practical difference?

Tribalism and partisanship. I rule out cult of personality because we've been seeing these signs for a while (see: GOP opinion on Russia)

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/1...-senate-243918
The 79-year-old Cochran appeared frail and at times disoriented during a brief hallway interview on Wednesday. He was unable to answer whether he would remain chairman of the Appropriations Committee, and at one point, needed a staffer to remind him where the Senate chamber is located.

Cochran had to be guided around a security checkpoint inside the Capitol by staffers. He began to walk into a first-floor room — the Senate chamber is on the second floor — and was retrieved by an aide. He was then taken up to the Senate.

On one amendment, Cochran voted “yes” despite being told by an aide to vote “no.” The staffer tried to get the senator to switch his vote, but Cochran kept flashing the “thumbs up” sign, even walking over to the clerk tallying the vote and doing so. GOP floor staffers repeatedly told him the leadership wanted a "no" vote. Several more moments passed before Cochran realized he was voting the wrong way and then changed his vote.

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/1...erviews-243962
President Donald Trump has personally interviewed at least two potential candidates for U.S. attorney positions in New York, according to two sources familiar with the matter — a move that critics say raises questions about whether they can be sufficiently independent from the president.
The Southern District of New York is an especially notable position since it has jurisdiction over Trump Tower. Preet Bharara, the former U.S. attorney there, has said he had been told that Trump would keep him on despite the change in administrations. Yet he was among those abruptly fired by Trump in March.
How ****ing transparent is this?

I agree completely. I know three things about Rep. Wilson.

1. She called out Trump for a dickish phone call to a widow.
2. She got untruthfully maligned by the White House Chief of Staff.
3. She's got some really questionable taste in hats.

Maybe this does deserve its own thread, but:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press...ve-order-13223

According to Reddit

This EO allows the federal government to recall into service any retired member of the Regular Army, Regular Navy, Regular Air Force, or Regular Marine Corps.
It essentially means we're about to go to war and Trump wants to make sure no military members who have left lately, or who may leave when their term is up during the war, can walk away. Unlike Bush, who was forcing extensions of service on soldiers who were already serving, Trump is granting himself the ability to recall anyone who's ever served in the past.

Not in this case. She wears colored cowboy hats to match her outfits routinely. It's just her thing.

Probably not; someone said it could an innocent update to the EI.

Odd addition: White House just released a statement about 'military justice'

Not great for people who took the calm before the storm comments seriously

Judging by the logos on the soda cans, and the pixels, this photo is from 1976. Also, this is when Zsa Zsa Gabor started getting some bad plastic surgery.

One of the reporters I follow on twitter had to clear up it was an SNL reference. I assume some people were freaking out in his replies.

Rod Rosenstein, who oversees Russia probe, thinks Americans are too ‘savvy’ for Russian ads to work

"I don’t think they’d be influenced by ads posted by foreign governments."
Do foreign ads lack some kind je ne sais quoi I'm not aware of? Short of some dude with a thick Russian accent going "I tink Trump very stronk" ads are ads.

Somalia had a recent bombing. I know, again. So after one of those, do you punish the citizenry by:

[-] reduce gun rights
[-] roadblocks & checkpoints
[-] mandatory waiting periods
[-] raise taxes to pay for ...
[-] more TSA security theater

Nope. Instead they blamed the people responsible (Al-Shabab apparently), and punished those who should have stopped such attacks, or at least mitigated the risks:

[x] Fire two of the most senior security officials. The national heads of police and intelligence.

Finally, us citizens don't get the shaft every time government security fails us. Please note the metaphorical license - I'm not a citizen of Somalia.

Twice in two days someone on Fox News has referred to the non-existant Clinton Administration. I think the Mueller thing has them rattled.

I haven't been able to read the WSJ editorial but that also sounds like they've gone off the deep end as well.

Lousiana's SC should be ashamed of themselves.
http://reason.com/blog/2017/10/30/he...-dog-the-court
"If y'all, this is how I feel, if y'all think I did it, I know that I didn't do it so why don't you just give me a lawyer dog cause this is not what's up."

That was Warren Demesme talking to the police after he voluntarily agreed to be interviewed over accusations he sexually assaulted a minor. In an opinion concurring with the Louisiana Supreme Court's decision to deny the man a writ of certiorari, Justice Scott Chricton insists that Demesme only "ambiguously referenced a lawyer."
Chricton's argument relies specifically on the ambiguity of what a "lawyer dog" might mean. And this alleged ambiguity is attributable entirely to the lack of a comma between "lawyer" and "dog" in the transcript. As such, the ambiguity is not the suspect's but the court's. And it requires willful ignorance to maintain it.

I could be wrong, but I think tax reform is polling worse than the healthcare bill
https://t.co/BBORMThqZE
As the debate gets underway, the poll shows, just 14 percent of Americans believe they'll get a tax cut, while 25 percent expect their taxes to go up.

Similarly, just 19 percent of Americans say the tax legislation will significantly improve the economy. At the same time, 35 percent expect it will substantially increase the budget deficit.

Maybe it does, but the Politico article below doesn't say anything like that. It alleges that Hillary was skirting campaign finance laws and that her actions cost Dem down-ballot candidates their chances, but that doesn't mean that the DNC rigged the primary.

In election news, Roy Moore has disappeared from the public eye ahead of the election in an attempt to hide the crazy. Meanwhile in VA Gillespie is running a blatant nativist campaign that any decent human being should disavow.
