Lesson: Some people are strange:]

The vision I had is the love of God can change everything," Unfreid said.

When the two seniors, 17 and 18, got caught kissing girls in front of younger students in late October, Unfreid said that while contemplating what discipline to hand out, he woke at 3 a.m. and prayed how to avoid expelling them....

Later at school, Unfreid walked the boys down to a basement room with Brost. He told them, " 'Guys, this has gotta stop,' " he said. " 'I've let the atmosphere get too lax. I share in this discipline. This is a one-time deal.' "

Then the principal took off his belt, gave it to Brost, and instructed the teacher to "discipline me like you would discipline your own son," he recalled.
The principal said he has no regrets over his action, only that he "showed a form of Christianity that was too radical for some members of the school community."

I love acts inspiring unquestioning fealty to authority with threats of violence AND I love people with martyr complexes AND I love teenagers being forbidden to kiss in public... THIS STORY HAS EVERYTHING! FIVE STARS!!!

I wonder if, someday, these people get real old and realize how friggin' STUPID they were.

Discipline for kissing in front of younger students? Expulsion? God forbid people should show affection for one another!

Actually this is a very interesting idea. And if you notice the reason the school board dismissed him was a technicality. Because if I gather correctly this is a small private Christian school. And they could not find anything scriptural that would condemn this sort of selfless attitude.
The principal was showing the students how much they hurt not only themselves but him in their actions which whether you like them or not were probably clearly prohibited, the children and their parents would have both known the rules.

Getting up in arms for strangeness is a very unchristian thing to do in my opinion. If we have examples of the strange stuff most of the prophets did getting mad at this sort of thing is stupid. This is the problem with modern Christianity, to worried about being acceptable to people who don't care about their faith.

Its neither here nor there. While there is no scriptural basis against. He was attempting to do what jesus did on the cross, in form of an example. One could say since they weren't facing that kind of punishment in the first place it was unnecessary and largely ineffective.

This is a controversial point. While scripturally sound it wasn't an action parents or non-christians would readily accept.

Won't this simply encourage more kids to kiss in public? "You get to make out AND spank the principal!"

He said it was a one time thing.

As for him trying to be a Jesus. I don't think so. I think he was more providing a more in your face example of 1st Cor 12. People who aren't Christians and haven't learned to think of things in a Christian way won't get this. Granted I wouldn't do this myself. But I do not fault him for doing so.

Typical of the extreme moral right....violence in front of students is OK, but affection between students is wrong...all from a man who claims to be inspired by "love".

I remember getting busted several times for "necking" in school (usually between classes). Though fun, it wasn't "legal" 16 years ago, and it still isn't acceptable to do it now. School isn't a place to get your freak on. Restraint in such areas needs to be exercised, especially with regards to minors.

That teacher's a freak, however. He needs therapy, lots of it.

I got busted getting a BJ between the lockers in High School.

We never really got into trouble for it other than a "Good talking to" about STDs and pregnancy.

I was a bad seed in high school.

you know what, that's a very good point. in essence both had "sexual experiences" in front of people.

this is what is called the "return of the repressed"in psychoanalysis. the principal needed to live out his sexuality and exhibitionism in a transformed way to deal with having repressed the kids sexuality/openness.

fascinating.

Naw not really provoking.

Me and my older brother used to fight all the time. But that stopped when I started getting bigger than him for some reason...

Never been into a "fight" with another person. Never had a reason to. It's silly.

powerful .. i'm sure it'll change people's attitudes. if not immediately, it will in the future ... they'll look back ... and have a soft spot for the principal who cared so much, he suffed for them... wow ..

Perhaps the principal would enjoy this product. Only $8.88 -- is that an occult pricing??
