I just looked up 1GB memory at Crucial for my PB 17, 1.33 and was quite surprised to see it at $479.99 a stick.

In September I will have had this thing for a year and it will still be at 1GB of memory. Sheesh!

It cots less than 1/4 of the price to put 1GB of memory in this machine than 2GB??

I'm sorry but that's just plain BOGUS!

Any other *Good* 1GB sticks out there for less than orbital prices??

I've always bought my memory from OWC... after I realized Crucial marks it up based upon their name.

try http://www.newegg.com. The prices fluctuate, but they are still good. 1GB is going to be expensive until they come out with 2GB so-dimms. Oh and so-dimms are more expensive just being so-dimms. Why are you complaining about 1GB? I only have 384MB on my desktop and will have 768MB on my laptop....

My Mushkin RAM is fantastic in my PowerBook 12" 1.33GHz.

www.mushkin.com (use code ddrdeal for 10% off)

They make very respected RAM on the PC enthusiast side.

Mine ended up less than $290 shipped for a 1GB stick.

dealram.com has some pretty good prices, although most of them are generic brands, but from what I've read in these forums generic RAM isn't as bad as it's made up to be.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

I bought that $479.99 1GB stick after looking the same up on Kingston.com and seeing over $700 for the same - I thought I was getting a good deal. Oh well, still is nice to have 1.25GB RAM!

With the 1GB RAM sticks hitting the $300 mark, I'm starting to think that I should just bite the bullett and get 1GB instead of "just" 512MB for my new 12-inch PowerBook.

OTOH, the $200 I would save could (almost) buy me an iPod mini or (definitely) an AirPort Express. I might have to go with 512MB after all.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

Most of the RAM on different sites is really the same stuff, just different stickers on there. The only real difference is how good the service is of the company that you had bought it from.

Looks like it's the right kind of RAM and a great deal. Maybe I need to go for 1.25GB RAM right away after all.

TailsToo makes a good point. Most RAM comes from the same plants. Most come with lifetime warranties. If you're paying a premium, it should be for better service and support in case of problems.

Sweet Jesus... awesome deal!

Slightly better even:
http://dealram.com/prices/28/1GB.html

I'm still waiting until they are a bit less than $200 though... I really only need it for GarageBand and iDVD. (See "Casual User" thread... )

I'm not complaining really, I just need this thing as fast as heck as it can be. That's why I have the 7200 RPM drive in it. But....I can also be running a lot of things at once and would love to give Photoshop CS a whole gig while running batch tasking and droplets.

It's not uncommon for me to be writing up an invoice, burning a dvd, listening to itunes and tweaking 2-3 GB of tiff files all at once.

Might go for the NewEgg ram though, five hundo is doable.

Hi all,

I just wanted to thank you all for the great deals you've found. I was prepping myself to buy a 1GB stick from crucial, but by sheer luck I ran into this thread.

Thanks ManNN folks, you've just saved me $250 bucks!

I bought two SimpleTech chips from Newegg - HUGE catastrophe! HUGE.

1) I paid to upgrade Priority (before noon) shipping. I paid the extra bucks. I ordered before 7pm the night before. Noon passed, never shipped. Luckily, they refunded the money.

2) The links to RAM suited for Apple had these 512mb chips from SimpleTech. You would think these would work in an Apple, right? Wrong. Tried everything, RAM chips were incompatible. So I was mad that they didn't do any research and tried to sell off incompatible chips.

3) Asked for RMA. Packed up chips, shipped them off. Two chips, same box. Cust. service rep failed to mark two chips for RMA. Box arrived, it's checked in - credit for only one chip applied. Over $100 a pop, this isn't going to be overlooked on my part. I complained, and complained. They insisted their warehouse folk took a tally and only received one chip. They even checked again after a couple weeks and said they still only counted one chip (personally, I don't know how they could still tell after a couple weeks but it was b.s. nonetheless).

I know a lot of people with pleasant experience, however I refuse to shop with them if it is going to be that much of a circus with logistics.
