Would it be more cost effective to upgrade the ram and hd rather than buying a new macbook.

Also which ram does it use and which hd? I am thinking ssd for the hd. http://dealnews.com/OCZ-2-5-64-GB-Se...-h/257244.html but thats serial ata i think the original uses a parallel ata drive.

at least 128 gigs of hd space would be nice or close to 128.

You can get 64GB SSDs with PATA interfaces, but it's a pain to swap the drive in the PowerBooks.

What do you do with your PowerBook? Do you need a 17" screen? For performance you'd be much better off any Intel Mac laptop.

I Don't want to get a whole new computer plus I do need the 17 inch screen for presentations. OF couse a intel mac is better faster duo core but my 17 inch works fine. I am also going to get 2 gigs of ram. Is that the most one can get for it.

Yes, 2GB is the maximum.

It's a much better value for your money if you just upgrade your PowerBook G4, I just upgraded my 1.67GHz 15" G4 a year ago instead of buying a new MB. It ended up that I spent like $150 on upgrading my PB.

Also, if you upgrade the hard drive, take-apart instructions are available here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/Powe...Al-17-Inch/55/
