Lots of fixes, improved file transfer support, improved google talk support.

See http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/AdiumVersionHistory for the full change list.

I'm looking forward to being able to use file transfers more often, for sure.

Ingtones: What do you feel sucks about the UI?

I think that guy was being sarcastic- Adium's customizability is its best feature!! Now that file sharing and voice chat work (supposedly, I haven't downloaded it yet) I have no reason to launch AIM or iChat!

Voice chat has not been implemented yet. There *is* a 3rd party plugin to do it (Gizmo) but it crashes on 0.85. We expect it will be re-released fairly soon (it'll be on www.adiumxtras.com when it is).

Google Talk service has been broken out from Jabber, and it has its own icon.

Is it just me or is Adium not using high-quality antialiasing for scaled buddy icons anymore? (Did it ever?)

I have noticed a lot lately that people's away messages aren't getting updated. They will go away their status will just show up as "Away". I have to manually get info on them to update. Or when they go away during a conversation, the "status" box will have their last away message before I started talking to them. Anyone else see this problem?

AOL changed some server settings that are causing Adium (and gaim, etc...) to get rate limiting errors. Hopefully they'll fix it, but we've got a workaround in progress, so there may be a 0.86 shortly to resolve it.

File transfer still doesn't work from my friend using iChat in Redmond to here in Iowa. That's really very annoying.

Wish they wouldn't jump on every UI bandwagon that comes along, first brushed metal now unified whens it going to actually just make sense and use regular aqua full time.

This has to be the buggiest release in some time.

We use video chat a lot. Especially when I travel. I can't see why Adium has taken so long to do something about this. iChat is fantastic for us.

Hey, now I can see everyone on my MSN Messenger account without having to manually enter them! W00T!

Because all this is done by reverse engineering of closed protocols. MS, Yahoo and AIM have no intention of publishing the internals of their protocols.

I haven't noticed any bugs during heavy usage in the past week, besides the AOL rate limiting (not Adiums fault).

Well it may have been a little harsh to say sucks but there are some things about it that just annoy me. Like the adium menu you can put in the menu bar not showing online contacts like iChat. Why would I want a global menu to control connections?

Also, I prefer how iChat's buddy list looks. Adium's just feels too plain to me.

In other words, "I can't be bothered to look in the app's features and customizability, and since it isn't iChat, I don't like it."

Why even develop it then? I personally love Adium. One feature I'd like to see is that if you unify multiple buddies, that the "view previous conversations" is also unified.

.Mac sync would also be a killer feature.

Not really. If you're talking about any color than yeah...

Where's the brushed metal look?

Other than that you really only have a choice between bubbles and list. It's cool and all, it just feels way to technical to me. There is just no love or style there, it's a dork's dream.

It's all quantitative, no really strong qualitative statement like some apps have.

Is that the best you could come up with?

I've seriously tried to use Adium because I have a couple people on MSN that I would like to talk to every now and then, but there is just something wrong with the feel of it.

I love the tabs, I love the fact that you can do multiple networks at once. I guess the multiple chat styles is cool even though I think most of the available ones are pretty cheesy. Is there any adium webkit styles that are as cool as the default Colloquy style? Now there's an awesome chat app.

The integrated log viewer concept is very cool, although I'm not a big fan of drawers.

But the whole thing is pretty standard Cocoa widget looking. Just no love or spice to it. It's like NetNewsWire. NNW has every feature you could ever want, but it is just plain not as cool as NewsFire. It's just not as fun to use and doesn't have the simplicity.

So I shouldn't have said it sucks, it's just not as high quality as it could and should be. And yes, I'm a superficial whore and proud of it. I also think the concepts in iChat are genius and not something that's even possible to explain.

I use adium but I went back to .78 after .8. I didn't like the new notifyer windows and how away messages werent popping up on certain styles. I love Adium, just haven't felt the need to upgrade. Maybe I will someday.

I just tried Adium, and it looks pretty spiffy. One thing which kills me though: you need to leave an extra window open to see the buddy list. iChat's menu bar feature is too convenient to give up.

Meh.

I think Adium has something similar in a plug-in? I love iChat... but it doesn't support multiple protocals very well. And even then you have to use two user lists.

If iChat would support multiple platforms like Adium does, I'd be all over it.

Yahoo is screwed up. All my contacts appear offline, although they are not.

Now I have to use this crumby official piece of sh!t client.

It has a menu bar item, you just need to activate it in the Preferences > General.

How good is the new Adium (for using MSN Messenger) versus the new MSN Messenger? Anyone here use Adium for MSN?

I use it for AIM/MSN/Google Talk.

They all work as promised. I haven't tried file sending since I upgraded to .86, but in .85 and below it never worked for me, it would just crash. Other than that, it works. I dont use voice or video chat, so I dont know if those work.

For some reason, Adium is not longer able to keep track of my passwords, or keep me logged into an msn server for longer than 30 seconds at a time. Its also sketchy when connecting to ICQ servers whether as an AIM account or ICQ. While I don't blame Adium or the GAIM project for the uber sad state of IM, that doesn't change the fact that it is the sux0r right now.

Why can't we all just Skype and get it over with.
