is it just me or do the open and save dialog boxes take ages to open?

Im on a dual 2gig with plenty of ram and the first time i go to save or open something in an app i get the spinning beachball and have to wait 20 seconds....

..is it just me?

(btw, dont even start with the "fix permissions" )

Doesn't do that in mine, they just pop open.

Something is up, are you running any third party stuff in your system?

You need OS 8.1 to complete the installation...

Well it only seems to be on my user account, so ill go trash some prefs and caches n see if that helps.

My first thought would be that a drive has spun down, but 20 seconds is way too long for that to be the case. My external FW was set to spin down and it caused a delay , but it was more like 3-4 seconds. Same thing with my iPod.

Its definitely not the drive spinning down. It seems much faster on a new user (much faster = instant) - i might get round to creating a new user for myself when i get time.
Tried deleting caches etc... that was no help... ill have a mess around n see what else could be causing it.

I find that open/save panels are much slower in Panther when you are in a remote directory (even if the volume you are browsing is on your LAN)

I find this especially in SubEthaEdit.

I would probably create a new user account and switch everything over. Or you could delete your entire library and have it regenerate.

Simple fix for this cause Apple in all their wisdom set the time for it to god awful slow. You can either tweak a plist to do it, or just grab hold of Coctail, and there's a little slider to adjust the speed of all dialogs like the open/save one.

Im not talking about how long it takes to do the animation, what i get is something like a 10 second delay and spinning beachball before the animation even shows.
Well think i may mess around with the preferences...

OK I figured it out. It turns out its the iDisk.

There must have been something wrong with the mirror and so when i have a dialog pop up it would take ages trying to sort the idisk out...
