Hi there

I accidentally upgraded my Mac Pro and forgot to update rather than install. I have over 23k pictures, music and other settings and they seem to be within files except im not sure where...

Any ideas where they could be?

The default is to upgrade. You'd have to purposely erase the drive. Your files should be in the same spot as before. Now if you went out of your way and erased the drive, then they are gone.

... Short of buying some great recovery software/having the drive shipped off.
I assume you didn't back up?

And yes, as Vandelay said, the flies should be where you left them. Did you choose a Clean Install? If so... It's gonna be a major PITA to get them back.

Are you sure you didn't archive and install? Then they would be in the Previous System folder.

Edit: Sorry, even if archived, the files should be in your home folder

I had a similar problem, I couldn't find my pictures at all and the iPhoto library was gone too. Everyone chimed in and had all sorts of advises. Didn't work at all. Then one day someone suggested I looked in spotlight and search for "jpeg." Voila, there it was. Hopefully this will work for you too.

They should be where you saved them to.

What folder did you happen to find them in? Was it at all identical to the one that you saved them in?

That was exactly my reaction, glad you found all of your pictures. I had over 2000 pictures of my sons from the day they were born so I know how precious it is. I bought an HP Medianet NAS and it is all backed up plus with Leopard's time machine, everything should be safe. Knock on wood.

Why didn't you suggest looking for "jpeg" in spotlight?

I think it's absolutely critical to know all of his apple lineup with each post. Critical.

I would like a full list of all of his apps on each of those machines as well. I feel I'm not getting enough information about his personal computer setups.

I find the level of detail to be pretty useful. It saves me having to look it up every time I want to know which model and version of iPod he has.

Unforetunately, with all that effort, he still manages to list a "2.4 GHZ Duo Core" iMac

Adam, I don't think you have a leg to stand on - your sig is woefully inadequate. For example, I know nothing about any iPods that you might own, I don't know what brand of RAM you have in your iMac, what type of external drive you have, whether you have previously owned other Macs, etc, etc etc. Your secrecy in these matters makes me a little suspicious to be honest.

I have a question for you mkerr - how much RAM is in your Powerbook? It would be so much more convenient if I could just slake my curiosity without having to bother you...
