I have a Mac Pro 2.66ghz and since getting a new external HDD for time machine (WD 1tb) , ive been noticing that my CPU usage is quite high
Im not sure what these apps are doing...
Does anyone know what i should do to decrease this?

im only running, itunes, msn messenger, and safari

Thanks

Edit:
Time machine only says "preparing to backup"

I've used these Terminal commands in the past to put syslogd back in its place:

sudo launchctl syslog stop com.apple.syslogd

This stops the process.

sudo rm /var/log/asl.db

This deletes the log file.

type it in anyway and hit enter/return. Terminal doesn't show cursor or key activity when entering a password.

ive managed to delete the sudo rm /var/log/asl.db

but...
mac-pro:~ (my name)$ sudo launchctl syslog stop com.apple.syslogd
launchctl: unknown subcommand "syslog"

unless it has been deleted or changed?
