You are not your political party. You are not the country you live in. You are not the contents of your wallet. You are not the man/woman you voted for. You are not your talking points. You are certainly not your damned khakis. You are not the all-knowing, all-seeing ruler of the world. You are not a unique snowflake. Snowflakes can't type.

---

First rule of the Political Lounge: No personal attacks.

Second rule of the Political Lounge: No personal attacks.

Third rule of the Political Lounge: Don't take it personally.

Fourth rule of the Political Lounge: All other forum rules apply.

Fifth rule of the Political Lounge: Think before you post.

Sixth rule of the Political Lounge: No shirt, no shoes, no service. Wait..scratch that. Clothing is completely optional. Just don't tell us.

Seventh rule of the Political Lounge: Threads go on as long as they have to. Lockination shouldn't occur too often if the other rules are followed.

Eighth rule of the Political Lounge: No posting and running. Cutting and pasting of long articles with only a brief comment is not allowed. Please provide a link to the article (with a summary and/or excerpts if you so desire) and then give your opinion.

Ninth rule of the Political Lounge: You will have respect for other posters and their right to opposing viewpoints.

now it seems as if no one is paying attention to the rules.

that won't do.

do i have to make the political lounge an invite-only forum? are politics really that important to you that you can't debate without being obscene, condescending, irrational, cruel, or belligerent?

Use the 'Report Abuse' button if you someone breaking these rules. Please don't use it if you simply disagree with what someone said and they weren't absolutely polite about it.

Interesting note: In the history of the Political Lounge, I've only received 2 abuse reports from members reporting people who held similar political views. A paltry 2.
So much for policing your own.
Something to keep in mind.

Most of you just want a more civilized discussion in here. But, as has been shown time and time again, that's not entirely possible. Some of you people get too wrapped up in your team-based party fighting, you take everything personally, you make broad generalizations about the other guy and then get pissed off when they do the same to you.

You all think the mods/admins are against YOUR side, because they warned you about being more civil in your debate tactics. You press the 'report abuse' link when someone calls you a jerk, even though, 2 posts up, you called them a ****ing idiot. You expect us not to notice, and then complain when we don't take action against them.

Whatever.

Some of you should stop posting in here until you've developed the skills to do so without vitriol.

How not to debate

Just a little reminder of the tactics you should avoid.

Also, the number of people reporting posts from people they politically align themselves with, after a year and a half of this place being open: 4.
Congrats.

Also, the ganging up tactic of like-minded people replying in rapid succession to an opposing post will no longer be tolerated. If each post contains substance, it can remain. But, as we all know, this is seldom the case.

Beware of the PWL Plague.
Symptoms include:
  • assuming every mod who infracts you is the complete opposite of you politically
  • believing repeating yourself is effective in getting a point across
  • conspiracies abound! especially ones designed to keep you down
  • attacking the messenger, rather than the message
  • whining
  • starting threads, not for a frank discussion, but to use your ready-made arguments against your political opponents

More to follow as we continue to discover information about this dreaded disease.
