I just got an e-mail from the dorks at Earthlink (i'm kind of stuck with them now- but do not under any circumstances get their cable internet service- the level of customer service and support is below third world standards) saying that my service has been speeded up- to 3.0Mbps. How do I verify this? I have the program called Menu Meters running but what do I look for on the RX speed indicator and what do I do to test the speed? In other words, what do I do to "load it up"? And is there another program I can use to check the speed?

I've had earthlink cable for 3 years. Never had a problem with it, so I've never contacted their support.

As far as the bandwidth boast, I guess you just have to take their word for it. I don't know of anything that will tell you how much bandwidth is allocated to you.
