I have been trying to install BitchX for os X, following these instructions:
http://www.versiontracker.com/redir.fcgi/kind=0&id=8935

Unfortunately I am having problems. First ncurses will not make. There are several compile errors & warnings. And it never seems to stop! I let make run for nearly 10 minutes with screen after screen of errors and I finally just cancelled it. Same with make install. Yes I am logged in as root.

Also when I download BitchX and try to ./ install.sh it gives me ./ Permission Denied!! I am su'ed as instructed.

Has anyone successfully installed ncurses or bitchX? Am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks.

(Sorry about the blank post--hey why can't we delete our own posts anymore??)

Have you installed the Developer tools?

what are the permissions on the file?

Type "l install.sh"

Even if you are root, if the file isn't executable by root and is owned by root, you might have to chmod it.

chmod +x install.sh

both install.sh and the enclosing directory are +x for all.

But even if I could get that install script executed, ncurses still insn't installed, so it probably won't work.

http://softrak.stepwise.com/ has a precompiled ncurses-5.2 package for OS X. All you have to do is type "sudo make install"

Well, I got a lot further. I downloaded that binary, expanded it, then cd'd to that directory, then sudo make install. NCurses seemed to install alright.

Now back to my BitchX installer problems. I still get a "permission Denied" if I try to run anything with ./ filename (such as install.sh).

But I figured a workaround drag the install.sh icon to the termin window. Its full path is copied there. Hit enter and it is executed.

So after I am cd'd into the installer directory and run the installer this way it works. Good. When it's done it says:

You are ready to roll. Type 'BitchX' (without the single-quotes)
to start using BitchX for OSX

Of course this won't work. Dammit. Even if I cd to usr/local/bin/ and type BitchX. What gives!?!

Well BitchX runs when I type in the full path...but this is unnacceptible. How do you mac X recognise the binary by just typing the command?

Also how do you chance the default server it goes to? Thanks.
