I suggest you be more clear (or is that clearer? ) about your typing problem. You are obviously typing something. Your registration goes back more than a month; surely this isn't a new thing--this whole 'typing' revelation.

I'd start trying to type

T-R-O-L-L
and then move on to
B-A-N-N-E-D.

How about S-H-U-T I-T?
On a PC, you can't use shortcuts with the keyboard, but @ is still shift-2.

OK I just want to typ the symbol "@" on my Tibook. Like in an e-mail.
I can see the symbol on the "L" key but i don't know which key i have to use together with the "L" key.
I'm sorry but or i'm going crazy or there is something very wrong on my Mac. I'm already a member for a month cause i was lookin' for the pro's & contra's of the computer before i bought it. i know this sounds more stupid than stupid can be BUT it's driving me nuts for more than 2 hours now. Thx for your help

The question makes a lot of sense, if you would all stop being so hostile and stop to think for a minute.

Can you possibly imagine - for just one moment - the following circumstances?

- Poor user has a foreign Ti keyboard (perhaps why the '@' symbol is on the "L" key and not where Americans would expect?)

- Poor user has the default key mapping set to US/English keyboard, hence the mapping doesn't match what's printed on the keys

- He typed the '@' from a different computer to pose his question

Sometimes it's nice to give fellow Mac users the benefit of the doubt.

Really,

Go easy on the guy- he's frustrated, new computer and he can't figure out how to type a stupid character- wouldn't you be ticked off?

I don't have that keyboard map on my machine, but I'm guessing that he should try open-apple L, option L, control L, or shift L.
If that doesn't work, start trying them together: open-apple shift L, option shift L, and so on.

One of these will be the answer.

(lecture) when people come here with questions that even they admit sound like a stupid questions, this isn't a troll, this isn't worthy of banning- it means they want help, and feel stupid asking, when they can obviously use a computer with some level of ability.

What we should have asked is, what country did you buy the keyboard in, which keyboard mapping is it using, so we could actually solve the problem.(end lecture.)
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

In case you are still bothering to check this thread...

Electradise:

It was difficult to comprehend your quandry exactly. Are you trying to produce an ''@'' sign? On every keyboard I've seen since learning to type in high school the ''@'' sign is above the ''2'' -- so holding down the shift key and pressing ''2'' should give it to you.

I have *no* idea why you are talking about the ''L'' key in relation to ''@'' -- maybe somebody else here can get me up to speed on that connection?

On the german keyboard layout (Macintosh) the @ is located at the "L" key. Press option + L and you get the @ !!!! On german PC keyboards the @ is located at the "Q" and activated with "Alt Gr + Q" BTW.
I still wonder after all these years why you Americans are so "americo-centristic" <img border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" title="" src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" />

And: As mentioned by vmarks: Its not fair to make jokes or to crap along with "banned" or so, when a new member has a serious question

This is what the Key Caps desk accessory is for. You hold down the various modifier keys and it shows what character will be typed.

Love Calm Quiet : There is an @ symbol on the "L" key of my keyboard.
PeteWK: you try to speak, write Dutch, Flemmish.

Still going crazy though,

Thx for your help everybody !!!
