This sort of thing is going to push somebody into fire-bombing gateway stores. If there is one thing Gateway doesnt want to underestimate, its the rabid nature of many a Mac evangelist. I just hope Apple comes up with a good comeback campaign. Personally I think Gateway is getting desperate to make some money, (can anyone say $4 a share?).

You have to wonder what they were thinking with this ad. Do they really think that just because their solution is 'faster' that a bunch of current iMac owners are going to dump their machines and buy this one? And to they think iMac owners had no idea there were other machines out there they could buy?

Please, give me a break. If I was a PC user, I would much rather just save some cash and buy your run-of-the-mill PC and monitor. The thing about the original iMac (and still today) is the price compared to the traditional Powermac. The 17" iMac is still a tremendous value when compared to a similarly equipped Powermac G4. Can you say the same thing about the new Gateway when compared against a similarly-equipped desktop P4? I don't think so.

I think this thing will flop and break the bank for Gateway.

This reminds me of a comment that Ronald Reagan made during one of his campaigns. One of his opponents was showing images of Reagan with a lot of negative commentary on the voice-over. Reagan was delighted with the spots because they kept his image in the public eye for 30 seconds - for free. He noted that the public responds much more to the images presented than to any text being spoken.

So Gateway is putting the new iMac next to their machine. What better way to show the public what a great-looking product Apple has created? The accompanying PDF tech sheet that goes with the campaign would bewilder the average consumer.

Wait wait, now TN is actually defending a Gateway?

Even all my PC friends laugh at everything Gateway does, their computers are sub par and the state of their business shows it. NO self respecting PC guru would ever defend gateway, Compaq, HP, etc... Because they know they are crap, thats why Nimisys uses a sphere and TN's looks like my basement.

Plus just because the PC runs more titles, it doesn't means those titles are good. Oh man I can't have Corel Draw? Dammit, guess I'll just settle for Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator...

Plus both cost 2Gs, the iMac BURNS DVDs.... Hrm, iMac wins, try again Gateway, that is if your still in business later on.

Oh yeah, iMac also includes iMovie and iDVD 2, and I know they are no Windows Movie Maker, but I mean cmon now.

I think Apple has too much class to get into an advertising war with Gateway. It would be like two immature polititions who go at each other with tv commercials.

If Apple came back at Gateway with a anti-gateway commercial, it would give Apple a bad image. Any real mac person knows that we'll have the last laugh.

I have to admit, if I was a kid around 8yrs old, that Hot Wheels computer would be the bomb. I could care less about the iMac, bust out Skeletor!

I at one time wanted a hotwheels pc as it was dirt cheap and was better than my cyrix machine.

despite the fact it was blue, I was what.. 12 I think? was handy.

They did one thing nicely, however, at that time the average computer that was CHEAP was $999, and $599 was a bargain no matter what it had.

However, you can pick up what was liquidated of those computer units through places like direction for very little $$$ now.

Only problem is what was in them was total crap.

The day I go to virtual-hideout.net and see a hot wheels PC with the logo sanded off and they say they painted the flames on it, is the day I burst out laughing
