Some friends of mine bought a restaurant. They need to rename it from its current name, a seafood theme. They want a neighborhood friendly bar and grill theme. They will have DirectTV Sunday ticket. They have a pool table and dart boards. They have trivia, karaoke and bands for entertainment. It's got a separate non-smoking restaurant side.

I'm trying to come up with clever name ideas to give them. Any ideas?

Really, I don't know why people don't go with more attention getting, possibly silly names to get people in the door? ____'s Bar and Grill is super boring. Come up with something that makes people smile, is creative somehow, gets their attention, is an amusing play on words, that makes people curious or want to care...

Just thinking off the top of my head, how about something with "super sexy" in the title?

Holy crap?!?

Welcome back, stranger.

Umm, neither of those are my suggestions for a bar name. How about "Your Place" or "The Ground Floor Pub". They are inviting, homey, and a nice play on words. Although, there are SO many other details* we need to know to help you come up with a proper name.

It's kind of a difficult task, since we don't know the people or place involved.

"Crabby McLobster's Beer Emporium"?

Thanks dcmacdaddy! Yeah, it is kinda hard. It's off of King George Blvd. The area is army, college, some brits and scots transplanted, and regular folk. It's the only bar in a 3 mile radius, so it's kinda unique if you live in the area. It was seafood, but they want more of a bar and grill, applebees, homey kind of menu.

There will be 6 to 8 tvs- maybe more. It is wood and aluminum on the inside. I'm trying to get them to narrow down a theme, but they can't seem to give me a straight answer.

This is changing the topic a little bit, but why do so many restaurants assume that everybody wants 6 or 8 TVs stimulating them and vying for their attention?

They currently attract that type and want to attract more. I would say no tho, I know plenty of places they don't have that.

How about:

or some other witty reference to King George III?

There was one suggestion of King George Pourhouse. He said it was too long. I have very difficult clients.

It sounds like they are going to be somewhat beer/sports bar centric, no?

With all that anglo/military history go with Doofy's suggestion or use this one, "The Patriot". It touches on some of that history, offers lots of opportunities for themed decor--think American and British flags and military paraphernalia as opposed to NASCAR banners--they can get away with offering a meat-n-potatoes focused menu--think shepherd's pie, meatloaf, steak fries, and dark English beer--and give the local soldiers and British ex-pats a place to call "home". And if they are going to have lots of TVs with sport offerings make sure they show English Premium League soccer matches. It's probably an extra offering from DISH but it would fit in nicely with the overall semblance of the place.

PS: There is NOTHING worth emulating on Applebee's menu.

You should name it "Robert'); DROP TABLE Bars;--" . You could call it Little Bobby's Bar for short.

Context.

Seconded. Fairly common name for pubs over here, and with so many closing, they should be able to fairly easily find "The George" memorabilia on eBay.

The Shot Heard Round the World. Shortened, to The Shot.

The Royal Bastard.

The Broken Crown.

But anything with a King George type name I'd expect to be a British-themed pub. To really get a good name they have to decide their focus, sports or beer or X.

Not half-bad actually.

But yeah, we need to know more to be useful. Pictures, a distinctive theme, etc. etc. As it is I get the feeling they're trying to be a bland do-it-all Applebee's-with-modern-furnishings-and-sports clone, which is just about the worst possible type of place I can imagine and well worthy of the "Bad Pub" name someone suggested.

One of my favorite bars in Raleigh is the Pour House.

I like "The George", though.

How about "The Only Bar in a 3 Mile Radius" Bar?
