In an unprecedented technology company collaboration, computing magnates Dell, HP, Intel, Lenovo, and Microsoft are teaming up in an advertising campaign to boost the flagging PC industry. The slogan for the advertising effort, said to be "PC Does What" could be announced as early as Thursday, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The campaign will be cross-media, appearing on television, in print, and online according to Re/Code. It will run in the US and China. Intel and Microsoft are said to be giving the bulk of the ad-buy dollars to the effort, which has coalesced over the last few months.

No information is available as to the specific size of the campaign. One advertising official approached called it a "sizable" buy, proportional to an industry that rakes in $300 billion per year.

Man .... they gotta be really hurting and desperate to be doing this .... I don't even know why Dell is bothering .... they just re-incarnated themselves as EMC ($67 BILLION later !!!) .... But HP might fit with that strategy.
