i have an iMac G3 firewire that is not recognizing my firewire QPS CD burner. Are the firewire ports replaceable alone or do you have to replace the entire card (USB, 1394, Sound, etc). How do you take the iMac apart to get to that? is it easy? i know it might not be the computer's firewire ports that are bad but i'm asking just in case the need arises. thanks.

This isn't that hard, but it's not that easy either.
And, the firewire ports are not replaceable. They are mounted on the motherboard.

If you really wanted to you could buy a whole new motherboard.

How do you know it isn't a driver issue (extensions in OS 9) ?
