I opened up vpc and all of a sudden i was getting kernal panicks every 20 min.

i created a new user and copied over all the files.

the permissions however got messed up and most of the preferences were lost.

i recreated my old user account and copied everything back.. now the permissions for every file are wrong and i get errors whenever i do anything.

so far ive been going one by one and isolating the problem making file and giving myself permissions. this doesnt seem like the way to go though.. would it be advised to reinstall jaguar and hope for the best? is there a program that can restore all the right permissions? (apples disk utility seemed to make things worse)..

thanks in advance
DOS Computers manufactured by companies such as IBM, Compaq, Tandy, and millions of others are by far the most popular, with about 70 million machines in use worldwide. Macintosh fans, on the other hand, may note that cockroaches are far more numerous than humans, and that numbers alone do not denote a higher life form. -- New York Times, November 26, 1991

I highly doubt VPC screwed up your system. It sounds like you had problems before VPC that just happened to manifest themselves at that time.

Did you try repairing permissions? If things are too screwed up to do it from your boot drive, just use the OS X installer disc.
