best if you know the show but try this

gary throws a dinner party for howard and the gang at his new house in ct on a staurday

party starts at 7:00
cocktails from 7:00-8
dinner at 8:00

dinner is catered by a famous ct chef
after dinner, gary's wife, mary will serve her home made desserts

ok?

1) robin calls at 4:00 and says she cannot make it. she feels sick

2) during cocktails, gary had a small group of musicians playing classic music in the back yard. howard was cold so he closed a glass door facing them.

3) artie is late and calls gary. he got lost and will be 15 mins late.

4) gary tells the cook to delay the dinner from 8:00 to 8:15. chef says yes. but dinner ultimately started at 8:30

5) by the time of the main course, howard announces he's too tired and has to leave. so he and his gf beth leaves. howard says because artie was late, he couldn't make it to the end.

who did the worse social etiquette?

Who had the worse etiquette?

Everyone besides Howard was curteous enough to explain why they could not attend, or were late. Howard was curteous enough to come on time, but was unable to hold on for a half-hour delay.

Howard's behavior makes little sense. He leaves before the meal because Artie is 15 minutes late? Also, why did the chef get 15 minutes behind the 15 minutes late that he was told about by Gary? And where is Carl, anyways? Rude jerk didn't even make his presence known at the party. He should've dumped Renee a long time ago.

as gary explained, you try for 8:15 but it's not a science.

We have had a number of debates at home over this story. I personally feel that while Artie shares some of the blame for delaying dinner, Howard acted like an asshole at the party and then on the air. If he truly had been too tired to stay, he could have politely excused himself. When you attend someone else's party, you're not in a position to make demands concerning time constraints. If you really have to go before it's over, go; the last thing you should do is castigate others for your choice.

Howard is the only one who really made a breach of etiquette. Leaving during dinner is always poor manners, though if he really couldn't stay, I'd consider it acceptable for him simply to explain that he wasn't feeling well and had to go. Castigating people is never good etiquette.
