HELP!

My mirrored Drive door G4 (866 Dual) has SUCH a loud start tone the whole house is awake whenever I start it. I dunno if it works but lowering the system vol. to reduce the start sound noise is no option. On the old G4s the sound was just not that loud. Any idea?

You could:

A) Plug headphones in.
B) Leave your Power Mac on constantly like many people do.
C) Cup your hand over the speaker when you turn the machine on to contain the noise.

Very nice approach but I mean, this cannot be Apple's intention. This machine is so buggy anyway...

isn't there any TECHNICAL approach? A terminal hack or something? I don't seek a workaround, I seek a solution. Thanks anyway, man.

yeah .. i hate it when people gimme that "look" in a "silent" study hall .. then again ... we all look at winusers the same way when windows xp loads up .. it's just that, they have a way to mute while i havent figured out how to mute the thing until osx loads up... any suggestions? it seems if i have volume down before i shutdown, or mute before shutdown, it doesnt chime at all, but when i'm in a rush to leave, i always forget to mute ... anyone test this?
