Does the spotlight menu(not the window) still generate thumbnails for images and pdfs?

During the Apple Expo last August you could clearly see the menu generating thumbnails. But the pictures I've seen of the build that went out January show only generic icons.

Thumbnails for images. Generic icons for pdfs.
