What manufacturers are supporting OS X the best when it comes to scanner drivers?

None, that I know of. The problem appears to be that the TWAIN working group and Apple are still developing a specification for the TWAIN standard under OS X. Epson has a Scan-to-file download buried in their website that allows most of their newer scanners to scan an image to a file, and then you can open that file in Photoshop, or whatever other image editing program you use.

HP now has scanners that have OS X drivers. The Scanjet 3500, 3570, and 7400 series have drivers.

Don't want to rain on your parade, but you might want to check this out.

I am aware of this but I do know people who are not having a problems at this time. It seems to me that all the other vendors are having problems as well. Apple, as it rumored, is suppose to be supplying some kind of scanning software with 10.2. Maybe it will help and maybe it won't.

I have been scanning with my Lexmark X83 for almost six months now. I have to scan with the native software in OSX and then open an image editing app or Omniscan for OCR but it certainly works.

My Epson 1640SU works natively with X.2 Image Capture. I have not installed any additional drivers.
