Amazon has today expanded the Simple Notification Service for Amazon Web Services with a new "Mobile Push" option. The feature gives developers a way of sending push notifications to multiple mobile platforms simultaneously, including iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire devices. Up to 1 million notifications can be sent at no extra cost, but every million thereafter costs $1.

Such multi-platform support may be increasingly important as iOS becomes just another mobile option. While iOS tends to be more profitable for developers, Android is now taking the lead in terms of app downloads. Outside of the US, Android is usually the dominant phone platform.
