I have a new iMac I got lst fall and have started to use,
i got a USB hub from Anker this one :
Anker USB 3.0 4-Port Hub with 2-Foot USB 3.0 Cable
it has a 900mA max power out
I wanted to connect an iPad and an iTouch from time to time
I called them about the power those use to charge, and they didnt know and tried
to look it up. and couldnt find any thing
they said the devices would not be harmed, but might not charge
any ideas ?
many thanks

What's the question, what the iOS devices need to charge, or if they'll charge through the hub?

the iTouch and iPad charge through the USB 3, on the back of the iMac
if they draw < 900mA they should charge through the hub, and would be easier to connect and disconnect
but with the extra USB ports I could leave the cables connected to the hub as it would be easier to get to
the 4 USB connections on the back of the iMac fill up quickly.

Historically iOS devices really don't care for being attached through a hub- for data connection they need to be directly connected. I'll check power a bit later.

Apple's iPhone charger - also used for the iPad mini - outputs 1A, so 900 mA shouldn't be a problem for the phone. For the iPad, it will charge, but slowly - the main iPad charger outputs 2.1 A.
Hint: In most cases, the hub has 900 mA per port budgeted, but does not limit the power per port. If you only connect one device, it suddenly has 3600 mA to play with, if it wants to. This technically violates the USB spec, but a lot of hubs work this way.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

thanks I dont connect the iPad nor the iTouch continuously
Id just like a system where I can connect the one at a time, and not have to fiddle and faddle behind my
iMac so much
BTW Ive had almost every mac ( that I needed to upgrade to ) from the original 0kb mac
i do love the iMac from last fall : tax weekend etc no retina display, but I dont really need it !
very bright display etc and fast i got the 3 TB combi drive ( ssd ) and do not regret it !

through the hub mentioned : the iPod charges fine and transfers data
the iPad transfers data fine but does not charge. when the iPad is connected I get a 'notice' in the upper R iMac
screen ' iPad not charging' I use the hub for data transfer and directly plug in the iPad to an open USB 3 port on the back of the iMac when it needs a charge.
seems to work OK this way

I use a USB hub to connect my phone (not sure of brand or ampage) but it works fine to charge and sync.
