I heard somewhere that iPod does not support Chinese properly (i.e. can't even display nin hao ma in Chinese)... can someone let me know if Korean and Chinese can be supported in iPod?

I have songs in Chinese & Korean that I would love to have on the iPod when I get it:

Looking at my iPod, I believe the only Asian language support is Japanese.

Sorry,

Paco

I just tried it and it works great with Chinese Traditional (Wong Fei). This is great news!

Let me know if Korean works.

Tonton, try this... name one of your song as "ni hao ma" (how are you?) in Chinese... ni and ma will not appear!

I'll reboot into OS 9 and try this.

I can't get Chinese input to work at all in OS X. How is it done?

Meanwhile, commercial CDs with entries imported from CDDB work just fine. I have a few "Shenzhen Edition" CDs that don't have CDDB entries, though...

I don't have a digital camera so I can't post pics of my iPod to show you how Chinese looks, but it is just the "Taipei" screen font just like in the iTunes window.

I was going to get a PowerShot G2 but decided to wait on the very unlikely chance that Apple releases a digital camera at MacWorld.

Tonton, if you read Chinese go see this thread in Frostyplace.

Confirmed no Korean or proper Chinese text display!

I know OS X can display Chinese characters, but how are you modifying the names of the files? Are you in OS 9? Apple still hasn't released the CLK for OS X...

I'm currently using a Tier 2 build of Mac OS X... meaning I have extra languages i.e. Korean and Chinese. If you know anyone with the Tier 2 CD, see my page here on how to extract the IME components.

No wonder I can't input Chinese in OS X...

Meanwhile, the English iTunes for OS 9 can't input Chinese either.

So I tried the following:

Launch Classic.
Enter Chinese "ni hao ma" in simpletext.
Copy, paste into iTunes in OS X.
Chinese "ni hao ma" displays correctly in iTunes.
Copy to iPod.
iPod lists the song as "hao". "Ni" and "ma" have disappeared.
Looking closely at my playlist on the iPod, a few Chinese words (ni and ma among them) do not display at all in any song.
Looking back at iTunes, it looks like those words that disappear on the iPod are somewhat greyed out in the iTunes window...

I guess we'll have to wait until the next iPod update for full Chinese support

This is the thread that I am looking for man!

So far my experience with Chinese support in iTunes and iPod can be summarised as follows:

1) Boot up in OS9.2, installed the iTunes2.0.2 for Simplified Chinese. Can display and input Chinese no problem.
2) Plug in iPod for the first time. iTunes detected my iPod and syns OK. iPod cannot display Chinese at all.
3) Boot up in OSX10.1, install iTunes2.0.2 for Simplified Chinese. iTunes cannot display Chinese, cannot syn with iPod
4) Start up Classic, run iTunes for OS9. Can display Chinese but cannot input. Cannot detect CD when 1 is inserted, cannot syn with iPod.

I believe not all iPods are made the same. I bought mine in Singapore.

Regards
lwt
