Just want to get your your opinion Guys! I am planning to return my new MBP 17" in lieu for the MB. I am aware of the 10% restocking fee and I am getting nuts of making a decision . I like the black though a little bit disappointed when I saw it is not glossy.advice, advice... Please! By the way I still have the PB 17" 1.67.
Thanks in advance.

I don't see how you can go from 17 to 13.3 inches? If you needed something small why did you buy the 17" behemoth? If you need something large then isn't the 13.3" way too small?

Sorry, but I think your question is like asking whether a sporty roadster or a minivan would work better for you. I could see it if you were torn between the 15 and 13 inch models.

what are you planning to use it for? Just as Shawn_230, mentioned going from a 17 to a 13.3 is drastic if previously you were convinced enough to spring for the MBP. With a small screen, you may end up buying a separate monitor which brings the two closer together in price.

You might be responding to all the hype surrounding the introduction of the MB. If you have more time in your return window, take a few days to think about it. It seems to be a pattern lately that when Apple comes out with a new computer, everyone raves about it in reviews and such. Only later when the hype dies down do we get a more objective view of how good the machine actually is.

I guess you need to supply more info about what you want in a portable. I have to admit, I've been a PowerBook person forever, had most models of TiBooks, 15" & 17" Aluminum PowerBooks, and now a MacBook Pro 15". But I'm SERIOUSLY tempted by the black MacBook. I typed on one very briefly last night and the keyboard seemed better I thought it would be. I very well may get a black one to try out. I really like the new design, it just feels so right and balanced for a laptop. While I've admired the aluminum looks for awhile now, with the core duo processors the aluminum enclosure truly doesn't work well with the heat when not used on a desk.

Thanks for this! This is how I felt right now! I was planning to buy a new computer before that would add to my PB 17" and had been waiting for the rumored 13.3, unfortunately, MBP 17 came in first, but now that the one I have been waiting is here, I am really thinking of exchanging it.

So why didn't you but the 15.4" MBP... at least it's somewhat close to the MacBook which seems to be what you really wanted.

Because of the issues it has.

Why in the world would you forfeit the extra screen real estate, speed, ports, and graphic capabilities of the 17" for a smaller screen, integrated graphics, and a black case? This seems like a no brainer to me, unless you need money that you put into your 17".

If you really want to go for the MB, why not try to sell it? Maybe you won't lose the 10%.

i have the new 17in and would not go back to the 12in book i had, not even 13.3 in. what you might be able to do is sell your old PB and use that money for the 13.3in if that is what you really want.
Computers:
Macbook Pro: 17in, 2.16Ghz, 120GB HD, 1.5 GB ram.
iBook G4: 1.07Ghz, 60GB HD, 756mb ram (on sale for parts)

i was kinda in the same boat as you !!

im in uk.... i get educational prices so....

i was thinking of getting a mbp 17" to run logic on,

believe me i thought for a whole week whether to get a mbp or 17'

uk ed price mb 2.0 black = £885

uk ed price 17" mbp = £1625

i dont need the better graphics card, or the fw800, if i need th extra space i will buy a 23" monitor for ed £800 and ifi want i can fit a 7200 120 hd in the mb for £100 so i figured

mb2.0 with 7200 and 23" monitor for £1685 seem pretty good value and should match the 17" in everyway except the graphics card.

i ordered th emb , so will get back to you if this ismy dream machine...(gonna get 2gig ram too)

i went thru 3 quads, and its not the machine for me ..
