Just to check: Are you plugged into the router?

This actually has more to do with networking than with OS X. You'll probably find more pertinent help there. Moving.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned here is whether or not you tried to renew the laptop's IP address while connected to the D-Link router. Go to Network Preferences, select the built-in Ethernet connection and the TCP/IP button, and then click the "renew DHCP lease" button. This should make sure that your laptop can communicate with the router. If you don't do this sort of thing, you can wind up with the laptop having the IP address it had before you plugged it into the router, and that address could be completely different from the router's-and thus no communication can occur.

Nope. D-Link says that it is supposed to be macfantn's address, 192.168.0.1, not ".1.1" like Linksys and others use. The whole 192.168.x.x range is private, so there's lots of room to play.
