Part of my reluctance to jump on the PS4 bandwagon (aside from, you know, not actually knowing anything about the next XBOX) is the controller. First thre triggers, but after that, the joystick layout. So I put it to you, NN, where do your preferences lie? With the left joystick in the top left spot, center stage as it were, or with the left joystick at the bottom of the controller, mirror opposite to the right?

I'm obviously a bit biased towards my beloved 360 controller, but even after playing World at War on a PS3 for many hour I got very used to those joysticks as well.

What I really don't like are the triggers, this is one area the PS controller has always annoyed me. If it came down to just the joysticks, however, they wouldn't be enough to sway me away from the PS4.

As someone who went from keyboard + mouse FPS playing to an Xbox, I reckon that it'll take you about (max) 2 months to get used to the change. You already know how to play with a controller, you just have to adjust your muscle movement a bit.

I'd like to see a rifle controller for BF4, like Killzone has.

Motion control? Get out.

I suppose this thread illustrates a weakness of mine. I am famously poor at adapting to controls. Switching between games and such has always been a chore that takes time to adjust. I started the gen on the old GoldenEye legacy stick layout and it took wanting to play BioShock to finally convert over to what is considered standard. A lot of walking to walls and poor reflexes for a while, though.

I complain more about the concave vs. convex tops of the joysticks. I find my fingers slip off the PS3 sticks easier, but the PS4 controller appears to have gone more towards the concave style of the Xbox controllers.

Weird, no one voted for PS3 and I know we have a decent amount of PS3 owners on here.

Yep. I have a mouse with 3 joysticks. I'll find a link... it's some off-brand "3D mouse."

Sandio Technology - 3D Input Technology and Makers of the 3D Mouse

Unfortunately, no mac driver... They gave me one for free at an expo, said they were working on a Mac driver. That was like 2 years ago.

Dual Shock is my favorite controller ever, though I'll agree the triggers blow.

I have small hands, so that may factor into it.

You kids and your fancy jet planes.

In my day we had to glue feathers to wax.

In that vein, I'm curious why those who use inverted Y do so.

For me, it actually is an age issue. Flight sims were the first 3D games, so I was trained to think in those terms before free look existed.

I assume Dakar's reason is similar, he's an old fossil that couldn't adapt to the proper control scheme.

Must admit that I had trouble going from flying the choppers in BF3 to being a gunner. But, even at my age, I can adapt and overcome.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. If inverted is the default this gen, I have not noticed. Also, proper my ass.

That's rather unique. Still, this is about peeps who use controllers.

Who likes pushing the stick in as a "button"?

I'm way too much of a spaz for that to be of any utility, and it's often actively harmful.

I don't. That damn push stick button screws me over in Halo all the time.

Slick shoes?! Are you crazy?!

A good percentage of my CQ deaths in BF3 come from me pressing the right joystick too hard in surprise, causing my soldier to go prone (during which i can't fire).
