Does anyone know how to set up Safari to open up like this with the startup or homepage similar to how OmniWeb does it? I really like how this does it. Only thing is that this setup opens up a website, the OmniWeb browser opens up its own page. Any help would be appreciated.

Not SmoothStripes. Its SimpleAqua by Zimphire. My favorite (cause I like Apple's window buttons and progress bars).

Download it here

It doesn't come with an installer. You have to unstuff it, then you need to go to /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.Framework/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Resources

You need to change the permissions on this resources folder via Batchmod or some other way to make it writable to everyone. Then backup a file called Extras.rsrc to a safe place you will remember. Then just take the SimpleAqua's Extras.rsrc (the only file) and replace your original Extras.rsrc. Reset the permissions if you need to (make sure you make it exactly the way it was before). Log out and then back in. Do the reverse of this to go back to your original Aqua.

As far as opening a start page in Safari, just download and save your start page completely on your hard drive somewhere, load it up in Safari, and then go into Safari preferences/general and click "Set to Current Page". It will look like "file://mystartpage.html"

So easy.

Open the page you want in Safari. Go to Preferences and General and click "Set to current page".

I tried this but it only saved the text. The Apple icon image and the flashing Google search bar did not show up on the startup page.

Yeah, Safari isn't as good as Mozilla at saving complete web pages...

Here's the complete page you saw in my desktop pic in a .sit file

Have fun!

No trouble...put the unstuffed folder somewhere where you want it on your hard drive, then drag safariglow.html (inside the folder) onto Safari's dock icon. It'll load up and then you can go into preferences/general and click the "Set to Current Page" button.

Im using smooth stripes right now, but Safari still has its metal appearance.

How does one remove the metal and have it match with all the other aqua windows?

Thanks,

Just to elaborate on installation of SimpleAqua, here are the commands needed to "install" the Extras.rsrc.

BACKUP your current Extra.rsrc!! I forgot!

Make sure you are logged in as root

cd /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.Framework/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Resources

chmod 777 Extras.rsrc

cp /Location.of.new.file/Extras.rsrc ./

chmod 644 Extras.rsrc

After you have done that, logoff and log back in. I just did this on my PowerBook and it worked perfectly.

Thanks. I use Safari Enhancer to remove the metal appearance (as well as importing Camino bookmarks). I also use SafariMasks to get the grey glass buttons. Although, you can use unsanity's metallifizer to remove the metal appearance too, and and the metal of most other programs (like iCal). iTunes is the only one that is hard coded with metal, though many have tried to make it aqua.

HAHA! Love Milton! You gotta animate him! It would be great if he popped out on the hour or something, like a chime. That would be so funny!

The icon is a konfabulator widget called "only finder". It hides all apps at once and gives a clean desktop...pretty convenient..

Quick question, why not just command option click the finder icon in the dock? It will open a finder window but save you a bunch of RAM..

The Matrix Screenshot.

My current Mac desktop. The wallpaper can be found at SpyMac Gallery

The menubar applications at the top are from Left to Right: CheckOff, PTHiTunesNotifier, WeatherPop, MenuMeter, Volume control, DeskShade Plus, Battery indicator, wClock.

Because I can't stand a messy-looking desktop, I use DeskShade Plus to "hide" my icons. Also, I hide my dock because I use FruitMenu.

OS: Mac OS 10.2.4
Computer: Apple PowerBook Titanium
Theme: Max's SmoothStripes Sunken 3.0.1 Blue
Icons: SNOW E.2 (not visible)
Switcher since October 2002

Same as last time, except that I have SmoothStripes Gloss 3.0.1 with Blue widgets (awesome theme), and it works very well with the PlasmaDesign desktop (named, "Going Up").
