Howdy,

I run OS 10.4.11 on a Powerbook and I have Microsoft Word:mac v.x

The program keeps crashing - it just shuts down - usually it's when I save - and it happens really frequently.

I've lost the software discs so I can't reload anything. How would a complete non techie like myself fix this?

I appreciate any help. Thanks.

In Disk Utility, try repairing the permissions - this will often fix a lot of weird problems like that.

You could also create a new user account and see if the crashes occur there.

I'd say you have a Word macro virus. Download ClamAVX and scan some of your documents.

Another quick way to test is to open a new blank document, and hit the close button. If it asks you to save, you have the Word virus.

Most times I've seen Word become unstable is because of a Word virus.

Thanks, it seems to have stopped crashing without me actually doing anything - i'm wondering if i had something open at the time that was conflicting with it, if that makes any sense. If it starts again, i'll work through those things.

thanks for replies.
