I don't download much any more so it isn't even worth posting.
I was told that for an extra $10/month I could upgrade to 30/5, but I have been getting 14mbit in real world usage so I'm not complaining.

things aren't too impressive at my school.

The speedtest.net site maxes out my cpu so I think these results are a bit off.

I can't post a current Speedtest screenshot because I'm not at home right now, but I consistently get just over 5Mpbs down and over 600kbps up through my AT&T DSL connection.

This is what $14.99/mo will get you:

I think I just lost the internets. Literally. I don't know where they went. They disappeared while I was waiting for that image to load.

Finally someone in the same boat as me!

(Though mine is through the student housing, so I only pay about $4 per month for it)

for accurate tests over T3 speeds, stick with sites running web100 software...

The Web100 Project

speedtest.net, etc isn't a good test when you have a connection over T3...like my OC12 (burstable)

I’m surprised we haven’t heard from any Hong Kongers with gigabit connections yet—our ePenis contest isn’t complete without at least one gigawang (or should that be gigawong?).

oh, we (work) has that too. on our regional backbone it is 10g to most universities. 655mb is my first non backbone hop it is all private fiber at each (most) in our regional network using Extreme Networks 10g capable routers; multiple redundant pairs of single mode fiber.

This is the best I can get in Sint Maarten. They use the Motorola Canopy Wireless technology which I know supports much faster speeds. I asked for more bandwidth and they looked at me like I was insane and asked why would anyone need more than 1MB/s service. People are so closed-minded in the Caribbean. It's frustrating.

I'm slow. I use Cruzio. A very nice local ISP, DSL, with speed choices of 56k (dialup), ISDN, 1.5mpbs, or 3mbps where I live. I have the 1.5 pack. It has 384k theoretical up. I see I am fairly close to my theo. up but a ways away from my theo. down. Great support - answers to a real person in under 5 rings in non-peak!

Qwest (7Mbps down/8xx kbs up). I have been using it over a year now and it's much more stable than Comcast

Here in the "technology Hub of the Middle East" we have terrible speeds. 1649kbps//117kbps (d/u). For this we pay about $100/mo. In Prague, we pay $60/mo for 12000/2000 (d/u).

Also our net here is heavilly censored and Skype is blocked.

On a supposed 3.0 / 512 DSL line:

Safari 3 in OS X - ~1800 / 450

Safari 3 in XP thru VMware Fusion - 2890 / 250

So it's faster in emulation download but slower in upload. Weird.

I was just about to bump this thread! How odd. New Internet finally here and installed as of this afternoon.

Supposed to be a 20/2 Mbit connection, but... well...

Close enough, for now.

I have the Comast guy coming out tomorrow. I've heard they can be horrible, but right now with DSL I'm getting:

If I hop on my neighbors wireless with only two bars signal strength:

That is a little more than double the normal ping. It's usually around 30. Mine is never below 130. I think the phone lines are funky here.

Comcast may be more expensive, but it should be a bit more consistent. Not to mention there are four of us that live here, so it ends up not being that expensive.

Comcast cheats though. There's NO WAY these speeds will stay that fast for more than 20 seconds or so. Burst speeds are nice for things like web browsing though.

From my home, I can access through my work's firewall to their main connection:

Of course, I can't actually get that speed at my house, but it would be nice.

Here's mine from home. I have my VPN connection going (within vmware fusion) so I'm not sure if that may be affecting the performance. I'll have to try this later when I'm not working.

Is that with powerboost? My speed is the 8/768 plan, with the powerboost I am getting around 2MB/sec on downloads (first 30 MB or so) then back to around 700K... Upload is good too, I see your up is great so that must be upload PB, but your down is funky unless you are paying for 4MB?

And I thought my DSL wasn't too slow

evidently it is slower - but it is less expensive then comcast and I'm not doing anything that the lack of performance would be a hinderance.

It’s unlikely to get much higher. There’s a clause in the contract that says they may be unable to deliver full speed in certain areas, yada-yada-yada, and where I live (despite being on the outskirts of the capital and still densely populated area) falls into this category, I guess. I never really expected it to be a full 20 Mbit connection in reality.

It’s only $60 per month, though (which is dirt cheap for a decent ADSL line here).

New Comcast connection. $33 a month/6 months. Renegotiable after that.

With the loss of two prominent trackers, probably not. In the case I do want to, then there are wireless networks around here. I only have two options, Comcast and AT&T. You can see the difference.

Here's what I have at home through DSL. I do have the option of going with Comcast, but it just really isn't worth the extra expense right now

What, me worry?
