Hey all,

I'm looking for someone in the Boston area who might own or have access to a working Apple IIgs with both a 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drive *and* know how to use it.

I have some 5.25" floppies from an Apple IIc that *might* still be readable and I'd like to find out if they, in fact, are. If they are, I'd like to move them to a more reliable medium before attempting any file conversion or what not. If not, at least I'd know I'm not throwing away something that might have a bit of the past still on them.

I appreciate any help in this matter.

I just got one of these to back up my Apple ][ software. Ultima III, Ultima V, and Dragon Wars. If you have an older Mac (6500 or older) with an LC PDS slot, you can pop one of these puppies in. It's a full Apple ][ on a card that fits in your PDS slot. You can hook up both 5.25 and 3.5 floppies.

I hope that you will be successful in your quest. I do live in Boston. Used to own an Apple IIGS, but it is long gone. Sounds as though olePigon may have your solution, good luck!

try a local school district. as i remember there were a ton of IIgs' in circulation. chances are that somewhere there is still one kicking around. i know that in '98 (when still in HS) we still had one in our lab. some teachers just dont get it.

Unfortunately, I have not owned a Mac since the summer of 2000 (though I work with them every day at work - I work in IT). So, I have no Mac to upgrade with an Apple II card.

I was considering purchasing an Apple IIgs or LC (with an Apple II card) off of eBay, but the total cost of that would be $100 or more, and I'm not willing to spend that much to find out what's on 4 Apple II floppies.

I'd rather find a local person who has a working system, have them help me check each floppy, and compensate them for their time and the cost of any floppies.

I'll keep checking via craigslist.org or other outlets here in Boston.

Thanks for the advice though.
