What is the "Highest degree" you hold?

I thought of all the poles in here and one that I have yet to see in my short stay is.
What is your highest degree? Not, that it really matters, as I place more importance
on one's life experience and self-education over that of a formal degree, but I do
hold an M.Ed. and am thinking of persuing my Phd. in Philosophy.
Just curious now. No flaming allowed or you will be punished with 20 verbal lashes.
What was your degree in?
What do you do? Is it related to your degree? Why? Why not?
What is your dream job?
Why did you choose to go to school so long or not so long?
What about "Professional Degrees"? (By request)

Degree thread.
But I didn't participate in that one so here it goes:
BA in Theoretical Mathematics
Management Consulting. Not really related (it just isn't )
I want to be retired - not mafia retired , I want to sit on my butt and do nothing all day long
I plan to go back to school for my Masters in a couple of years. I took my current job because I wanted a break from school.

Junior High School (8th grade) - though I don't recall a degree being bestowed upon me... more like an "official" certificate of completion.
I'll probably only return to school on the lecture/light entertainment circuit.

I'm currently doing a Masters in Electronic Engineering. I currently work (when I'm not sudying) as a programmer, which is kind of related to my degree (only a small amount of it is software engineering).
My dream job? Difficult question. I'd always hoped I could win the lottery and do naff all Well, maybe carry on with writing open-source stuff and anything that interests me...
Oh, and since when did anything below university (high-school) count as a degree? Is it different in the US?

I found suffering through my undergraduate and masters work so enjoyable I've made the unfortunate decision to apply to doctoral programs. One perk was that my wife agreed that I would need a new lap top to go to school, so I snagged a new iBook.
However, my area of expertise is general buffoonary. I'm skilled at spending huge quantities of time looking like I'm busy while actually doing nothing. This to me is the essance of buffoonary. I guess that will come in hand while pursuing a Ph.D.

I'll be getting my BA in May.
Oh yeah. The questions.
What was your degree in? - Computer Science
What do you do? Is it related to your degree? Why? Why not? - At the moment I'm a SysAdmin for my school. So, yes.
What is your dream job? - Independently wealthy.
Why did you choose to go to school so long or not so long? - What else am I going to do?

What was your degree in?
Biology. B.Sc. Genetics, just changed to Zoology. Double major - Zoology with either a Geology of sorts, or a Marine Science of sorts. I haven't decided yet.
I'll then go back and finish my Genetics degree. I'm not doing it right now because I can't be bothered with all the chemistry.
What do you do? Is it related to your degree? Why? Why not?
Currently what I "do" is my degree... 3rd year now.
What is your dream job?
Photographer for a porn magazine, or something similar
Short of that, either cancer research (genetic), or cloning research. At an equal level, and with my current degree, probably working for National Geographic or whatever, going overseas, doing Africa/Asia for research.
Why did you choose to go to school so long or not so long?
Uni rocks. Loads of fun.

BFA in Theater. I went to school for directing, but became a stage manager. I made that decision after two years but didn't change my major, thought it would be more important to have the education in directing. I've co-directed once since then, would love to do it as a second career if the opportunity came along. As it is, it's a handy skill/talent to have in my career.

You are a very good example of why formal education should not be used to judge people. I mean that as a compliment. I hope it comes out that way.
Of course, I'm biased. My mother was one of the best self-educated people I have ever known. She left school at 14.

What was your degree in?
First degree was BSc (Biomedical). I'm now four weeks into med school.
What do you do? Is it related to your degree? Why? Why not?
My degree is pretty much it. I also work part time at a hospital as a wardie, cleaning up **** and shaving balls to pay the bills.
What is your dream job?
Being a fat-cat playboy with a pimped out mansion and more women than Hugh Hefner. More realistically, I'd like to be in private practice with nice patients who do what they're told and don't die too often.
Why did you choose to go to school so long or not so long?
Because the real world scares me

I have two: One, an AA in Peace and World Order and a BA in English/Communications
What do you do? Is it related to your degree? Why? Why not?
I am a cashier at Linens n Things and write whenever I can so I guess its sorta related to my degree. Someday I'll break out of this cycle.
Being Yasmine Bleeth's boy toy. Oh, really, I'd like to write fulltime and make a living doing it.
Why did you choose to go to school so long or not so long?
To pick up hot college babes. I guess it worked; I met my wife there

Fair enough. Right now it is a BSFS. Next year it will be a JD. Or at least it will be if I get past this advanced writing requirement class. Wouldn't want to jinx myself.

>> What was your degree in?
b.a. in film studies (and i also have enough credits for a minor in anthropology, but it is not official)
i started out as a fine arts (painting) major, but was always more interested in cinema and later on "computer arts" / design / publishing.
>> What do you do? Is it related to your degree? Why? Why not?
i just went into business for myself in desktop publishing / web design. i guess in a way it is related to my degree, since it has to do with "visual arts"
i wanted to go into the film editing right after i got my degree, but there seemed to be a problem with my "lack of on the job experience", and i didn't have the money to buy the equipment to go into business for myself.
so a period of about 4 years taking on every crap job to keep me afloat followed, until i got into dtp and web design, - then the economy went to sh*t...
>> What is your dream job?
my dream job would be in an agency either in the bay area or thailand, doing non-linear video editing or maybe experimental filmmaking / painting / design.
>> Why did you choose to go to school so long or not so long
i always knew i was going to go to college. great experience! worked like a horse and drank like a fish i started out as a sociology major, then got into fine arts and film studies.
i just wish i would have gone 8 years later - things have completely changed since then (they didn't have fcp at the time ) i can remember editing video on a thing called the "toaster"...*g*
maybe one day i'll go back and get a masters. but for now, i'd rather just work, build up a portfolio, maybe travel a bit...

PhD in Organic Synthesis (chemistry)
I'm a college prof.
Dream job: I've got it.
Why so long? Liked academia and hated the real world? Masochist? I don't know, it just seemed like the right thing to do. I liked it, so why not pursue it?

You, sir, are a prime candidate for management in a big company! Maybe you should rethink your Ph.D. gig, middle management pays much better!
As for me, I'm in the increasingly unusual position that I have a Masters in Electrical Engineering, and actually have an engineering job to go with it. I count myself lucky.
My dream job is anything that hasn't been outsourced yet.
I went to College in the first place because I was interested in computer hardware, and all the interesting stuff requires a college degree. I got my Masters basically because I could, and because DARPA paid my tab. I got through it in a year, and ended up in a much better position when looking for a job than if I applied right after my BS.
I contemplated going into Patent Law instead of getting my Masters, but I decided against it, since it would mean I'd have to spend all my time around lawyers. I still consider it from time to time, but I like not having any education-related debt. Also, the closest law schools to Rochester are an hour+ away, and I have no desire to move or commute a long distance...

Bachelor Degree
What was your degree in? Information Systems
What do you do? Is it related to your degree? Why? Why not? Sales rep for marketsource with the HP program. Been doing that since I was in college.
What is your dream job? Still trying to figure that out
Why did you choose to go to school so long or not so long? I felt college was the right decision for me. I was always into computers, so I decided to take that to the next level.

I have an Associates Degree in Nursing. I'm very proud of my work as a Registered Nurse in the Air Force and the VA. Enjoy serving others. There is no pleasure quite like a patient saying thank you.

Currently I have a BS in Computer Science and Engineering. I'm working full time and studying part time for a Masters in Computer Science. I'd like to eventually either get a PhD in CS or an MBA, but that's down the road. I couldn't wait to get out of college and get my BS, but I think that's mostly because I was dissatisfied with my school. In general I am a fan of academia.
Probably the best way to describe what I do is 'Systems Analyst' but I am also involved in a program that lets me switch jobs every so often, so in a bit I will magically transform into a technical writer, which should also be kind of entertaining. I like programming and used to think my dream job was to be an applications programmer and write the next big app. But systems programming can be a serious challenge as well and I think I'd like to head in that direction given that the applications area is in bad shape. Mostly I just enjoy designing and programming software -- as long as I can do that in some capacity I'm pretty satisfied. My career isn't as important to me as my personal life and hobbies, so it's important that it leaves me time for those.

Oh, I partially attended high school, on and off up to about the first half of my Junior year. It just got too hectic because I was moving at least six times a year and was trying to hold down a job (even though I was underage half that time).
Seriously. There is nothing I'd have loved more than to have a fixed address and three square meals. Even if it meant I had to live in a dorm room and eat cafeteria food.

BA in Business & Info. Management with a side order of Diploma in Logistics in July if all goes to plan...
Doing a admin job at the mo to pay for booze so I get to use outlook (YEY!!) which I guess is information management... who am I kidding! I'm more interested in the logistics side of things anyway, hence diploma..
Dream job? Difficult to tell - Graphic designer/photographer etc i dunno something that give me "skillz" and a wad of dough to go with it. Ahh ferrari test driver... that would do me nicely as long as I got a company car
Seriously I'm not strictly interested in following my degree direction, I want to do something creative... which I guess is gonna be difficult :-( ah well...time to start believing in re-incarnation.

I was proud of my MBA until I found out Dubya Bush had one too. Seriously, B-school was great though extremely demanding. Only 10% of those who qualified actually completed. I have used my degree to develop low-income housing and build a financially solid and high quality substance abuse treatment non-profit corporation. Not everyone with an MBA is interested in fleecing investors, exploiting workers, or cooking the books!

After High School, I took a 3 years technical course on Video Production in the mid 80's. After working my ass off for many years as a video editor than a broadcast designer than a promo producer, I now manage a 40 employes post-production house. I now make a much bigger salary than friends of mine who went to college in the same field. Which was not the case when I started.
So in the long run, hard work and talent is worth any degree...

i posted in that other thread, but my life has changed a bit since then
What was your degree in?
Computer Science, AB.
What do you do? Is it related to your degree? Why? Why not?
i'm the "MIS"/"IT Director" for a midsized hotel chain now. it's related, but only peripherally: i studied programming a bit, and took a lot of theory, but now i'm basically paid to be a professional geek. like my last project, where i was told, "we want to webcast a conference. make it happen."
What is your dream job?
to be a neurosurgeon or to be in academics, brain imaging research, without the whole grant hunting mess.
Why did you choose to go to school so long or not so long?
well, i'm not done. college was a given (both my parents are ph.d.s and father has a unrelated m.d. to boot ), and i'm going back to med school this fall-- see whinging in "white only scholarship" thread. this job's only to pass the time and save up some money. i'd stay in school forever if it was an environment free of politics. unfortunately it's not, so i'll have to go out into the real world for good at some point.
