Hi fellow Mac-SETI types,

Sorry if this question is excesively dim - but I just downloaded BOINC for Mac 10.3.4 and it will not open: I tried to open it with all the Usual Suspects, but none worked: as you all probably know already it is a .gz file - so can anyone let me know what the zarking fardwarks to use to open the damn thing?!

Many thanks in advance,

James

.gz is gzip archive format. Stuffit Expander should open it, otherwise open a Terminal window:

gunzip file.gz

If that fails, redownload the file, you got an incomplete archive.

Safari is pretty smart and your .gz probably uncompressed to boinc_3.20_powerpc_apple_darwin.
That is the actual client, so just put in the directory you plan to use and cd into the directory then
chmod a+rx boinc_3.20_powerpc_apple_darwin
and then ./boinc_3.20_powerpc_apple_darwin
to get started.

OOohkay, does all that mean it needs to be run from the terminal? I know it doesn't have a GUI at this time but I thought it would still run outside of the treminal.

I have Stuffit Deluxe
I have found nothing that it can not handle.
It even decodes and combine eync files

Get Stuffit Deluxe the paid version.
It has a free trial period to see if you like it but you will like it...

Mikkyo hello. da-guv & I are in da same boat I think.

Does advent of boinc mean Darwin 1.2 client, and Seti Menu & Seti Dockling don't work any more? (Mine stopped tansponeously about yesterday).

Also, Terminal's the only way to run boinc? (I hate to revert to the screensaver version). And, if you know, if Terminal's the only way at present, is another method on the drawing board, or will that be up to developers who did like Seti Dockling and Seti Menu?

Thanks in advance for answers to any o' these questions.

Regards,

For Linux and Mac OS, the terminal is the only current version. There is a GUI for Windows, but even it is undergoing a planned major redesign. Eventually there will be a GUI for Macs and Linux as well. Might take a few more months though.
