Yes, and Internet Explorer 5.2.3 is the 4th most popular download...

...after Firefox, which is number three

Cool !

Safari is awfully slow and buggy (and I'm on a fast connect), so I might just check out your program and see if it helps Safari.

Smart folks should pay attention to Scifience.

I've never seen anyone better at sensing the pulse of the internet user. And I've been around.

Program seems to work, cool.

It's possibly the worst OS X icon I've ever seen though.

Nice little app !!!

Only thing I would suggest is actually putting the app's name under the 'Safari Speed' menu the next time you do a build. This looks a little unfinished.

It would seem I overlooked that. Oops.

Version 1.2.1 will fix that and a typo in the interface.

Hey, I suck at graphics design.

Someone from SourceForge volunteered this icon, and it will be used in Version 1.2.1.

If you want something else to fix in 1.2.1, be sure to make the app quit when you close the window. Since there's only one window, leaving the app on won't be necessary

I like the UI of app. Very clean and simple.

Something wrong with the server ?

I got this 6 times in a row.

Safari cant open the page http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/s....dmg?download because the network connection was reset, which sometimes occurs when the server is busy. You might be able to open the page later.

I'll try again later I suppose.

It hasn't been distributed to all of the SourceForge mirrors yet, and their own server is notoriously slow/buggy. Try again; if you're lucky, you'll get through to the 8KB/s joy that is their temporary download server.

Within a few hours, all the mirrors should have picked it up.

Another tip: put your URL (or the readme) in the About Box. That way I can trash the ReadMe's and just put the app in my Utils folder.

Doesn't anyone think it's sad and pathetic that we need this app at all? Safari is supposed to be fast. Apple promised it would be fast, promised that finally Macs would have a fast, default browser. Safari has only gotten slower over time on my system. Hell, the beta was faster than the latest version. Safari suddenly stops connecting to sites, so I have to quit it and relaunch it. Happens again, so MacFixit.com tells me to put my ISP's DNS addresses in the Network preferences. Safari is still slow. Now I have to delete my icon cache. Still slow, so I have to download an app called SafariSpeed to speed it up. Then I come here to write this post and suddenly Safari is taking up 90% of my CPU. Why? Because it f*cking chokes on the animated smilies next to the text box I'm currently writing in.

WTF is wrong here?

Meanwhile, Mozilla and Firefox and Camino are only getting faster. Looks as if Safari is becoming the Apple's Internet Explorer.

Maybe it'll finally be "snappy" in Tiger after they've removed all the debug code and another $200 CAD from my wallet.

yeah, safari seems pretty slow to me too.

I love the green icon. I just installed this before I even read this thread. good job. Does it address the IPV6 issues that have been taking place?

I tried to install it on my imac, but got this: "rm: /Users/robertdonovan/Library/Safari/Icons: Permission denied (1)"

Any ideas on how to fix this.

Thanks and looking forward to a speedier Safari

Do you have the BSD Subsystem installed on your computer? It is a default part of the OS X install, but some people choose not to install it to save disk space, however, it is needed for SafariSpeed.

If you do, then try opening the terminal and typing
chmod 777 /Users/robertdonovan/Library/Safari/Icons
and pressing Return.

If that doesn't work, send me an e-mail: [email protected]

Hope this helps you out!

Wow! Safari does feel much faster with the delay off... thanks!

Safari is notoriously inefficient with animated graphics. How about an option to disable animations?

I'm not sure if it is actually possible without modifying the source code for Safari (which isn't available), but I'll look into it for the next version.

Thanks, Scifience. I've done my part to help you rise in the ranks by downloading the app.

And I installed it (repaired permissions, BTW).

I like the faster loading.

I downloaded it and was eager to speed up my safari, but it doesn't seem to work with my particular configuration. As soon as it opens, I get an unexpected quit. All permissions etc., is repaired on this machine (QS 933) that I tested it with, and I'm on the latest Panther.

Oh dear GOD no!!

Closing a window and quitting an app is NOT the same thing. One window or more. It's the most stupid Windows feature. Apps should be able to run without there being a friggin window on screen!!

Stick to graphic design Adam, you're good at it. UI interface apparently not so.

Hmm....no clue what's up with that. Do you by any chance not have the BSD Subsystem installed?

I'm not so sure. The problem is MS never understood the feature.

If the application's only purpose can be achieved solely by an operation in only one window, and the application isn't intended to be used over a long period of time, then it is ok to close the app when the window closes. This is not a document based app. It's a utility. There's no reason to keep it open.

Notice that System Prefs works this way. It didn't work that way in 10.0 but it was later fixed.
