I'm curious if anyone with an Intel iMac (I have the 20-inch) has been able to get the new Intel compiled version to run at 1680 x 1050....

I've tried setting the CustomHeight, CustomeWidth and R_Mode settings as recommended, but it resets itself back to 640 x 480 at 16-bit color.

I can run it successfully at 1280 x 1024.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks.

Works for me. Here are the settings I changed:

~/Library/Application Support/Quake3/baseq3/q3config.cfg

seta r_customheight "1050"
seta r_customwidth "1680"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_depthbits "24"

i appreciate the reply, but it's still not working... I even started with a fresh, unadulterated .cfg file.

I am perplexed.

I did notice that it has the same problem when running the PowerPC executable under Rosetta so it looks like the problem is not specific to the intel build.

I'll look for my Quake CDs later and test it out.

How does one go about installing Quake 3 on the Intel Macs? The installer application is Classic, so I cannot run it. How did you guys do it?

NOTE: The steps below are specific to the 1.32 point release, minor changes may be necessary with later updates.
NOTE: The Point Release should be installed before the game itself is installed.

To install Quake III Arena, do the following:
1) Using a program like StuffIt Expander, decompress the point release. A package file will be placed on the desktop.
2) Double-click the package file - it will open the installer for the Point Release.
3) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the point release installation.
4) Open the Quake III Arena CD.
5) Open the Quake3 folder.
6) Open the BaseQ3 folder.
7) Copy the PAK0.PK3 file from the CD to the BaseQ3 folder on your hard drive.

The game is now installed.
