I found the following product at a good price:

KINGSTON TECHNOLOGY (KVR266X64SC25/512)
512 MB 200PIN DDR SODIMM
PC266/PC2100 NON ECC CL2.5 NS

Will it be compatible with the latest ibooks?

Thanks!

Thank you!

Btw, I just ordered a bto iBook 12" with a 60GBHD & Bluetooth module + a 20GB iPod under the cram & jam promo (which is still going on for another week here in Italy!)

It's gonna be my first 'own' portable Mac after 14 years of Macs... (and my first iPod too!)

Well, my iBook and my iBook finally arrived and i must say they are even better than i expected!

Anyway that RAM didn't work: the two support brackets don't snap onto both sides of the memory card because the two holes on the side of the memory card are in a different position than the brackets' latch! Perhaps it wasn't a low profile so-dimm?

Now i have to return the memory hoping for a refund

Actually you should be fine. It's a 200pin SO-DIMM which means it's industry standard and should fit just fine.

Perhaps it's not seated all of the way in the slot, thus not allowing the arms to "snap" into place?

Where did you find the memory at? What was the price?

You have to push the memory in at 45 degrees. It takes a little bit of force but it will go in. After it goes in and the memory pins are touching the slot pins, push it down to snap it into place. Try it again before you send it back.

Well, i made a last tentative before sending it back and it worked! i had to use more force inserting it in the slot.

Thanks everyone!

yeah troy, ordered through amazon... really wanted the faster HD and built-in bluetooth but there are 4 rebates/discounts right now that bring the $999 down to around $729..... you can't afford NOT to buy one now.

Which ones did you use? I used:
-A9 discount
-$30 discount for Amazon.com VISA card
-$150 rebate from Amazon.com

I also purchased a Epson printer to get the rebate check from Apple to cover it, then I'll sell the printer on campus and put that towards the iBook.

What was the fourth rebate you used?

I think the fourth would be the "for each one dollar you spend, you get 3 points" deal... which then gives you $25+ back.

1. A9 Discount
2. $150 Amazon Rebate
3. Apple $100 Epson Stylus CX5400 printer rebate
4. Epson Stylus CX5400 $20 Printer Rebate

The Epson Stylus CX5400's are selling on ebay for between $80 and $100

That's $712.00 for a new iBook... hell my trusty 700mhz ibook went for $750 on ebay last week..... I actually MADE $38!!!

And I go from:

700mhz G3, 16mb VRAM, 20G HD, Airport b

to...

1.25ghz G4, 32mb VRAM, 30G HD, Airport b

Can't beat it!

Well... broke down and purchased memory:

www.macsales.com

$299 for 1GB PC2700 Samsung Module.... same as Apple ships with BTO.

I could have spent $50 less, but honestly, I don't want to take the chance this time around. Oddly enough, the price on this chip has dropped $66 in less than 2 weeks!!!

I was thinking of gettying this one from amazon, using the discount I'm gettying back from the Ibook purchase.

Will it work? [I want to be dead sure that it will work].

Thanks in advance.

As far as I can see that's a PC2700/DDR333 200-pin SO-DIMM. In theory, it should work just fine. There is the issue of SPD-EEPROM programming though. If PNY did a bad job with programming their SPD-EEPROM according to JEDEC standards, it might not work. Apple computers have been known to be very picky about that, modules that do not have a proper SPD-EEPROM might or might not work.

The only way to know for sure is to give it a shot. Given that PNY is not NoName though, I would say you can be fairly sure they did a splendid job programming their SPD-EEPROM and the stick should work just fine.

Awesome, thank you.

I plan to use the $25 from the Ibook purchase (Amazon Credit Card) to drop the price even further to $64. (Not bad for a 512 stick).
Thanks again.

I purchased a 1Gb ram stick from OWC. Installed it and recognized it on startup. No problems whatsoever.

I ended up ordering a 512MB SO DIMM from NewEgg, came to $83.41 after shipping. A user left comment right on the page mentioned that this module worked fine in their 12" 1.2GHz G4 iBook.

Does anyone foresee the prices of the 1024MB sticks coming down in the near future?
