Ok, I just moved house and as such am internetless at home until tuesday.

I downloaded iTunes 5 at work, burned a CD and installed it on my iBook at home.

Install went fine.

Last night, when trying to play some songs I have bought from the iTMS it asked me to authorize the computer to play the songs.

Clearly the update de-authorized my iBook.

What's totally stupid is that it won't re-authorize the computer unless you are connected to the internet.

Is this a bug, or am i just being a jackass?

You have to be online to authorise a computer.

If you can be online to post about it, you can be online to authorize it.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

No this is a bug.

If you're not connected to the internet iTunes is supposed to default to a connection to the iTMS using The Force. Perhaps your Force settings have become corrupt? Try deleting the prefs and if that doesn't work try reinstalling The Force from your OSX disc.

Are you sure nobody is blocking your connection with Jedi mind tricks?

How many times did i make clear that when at work i can connect to the internet, when at home i can't?

The issue is at home.

Thanks for your input.

The problem here, if you can only authorize when connected, is that the update shouldn't have de-authorized me.

Huh. Well, I definitely didn't have to re-authorize my Powerbook after updating to iTunes 5, so that sounds like a bug right there.

Purely guess and highly simplified...but my guess is those of us who updated and had net access didn't have to authorize, but installing a new iTunes with no net access it is asking you to reauthorize as it feels something has changed and doesn't know what?

Just a guess so if I'm way off try not to laugh too much.
