I'm wondering if anyone knows the best kind of CDs to burn in an eMac (USB 2.0) 1.25 Ghz machine? The computer has a combo drive.
That is, should it be CD-R, CD+R, CD+/-RW, etc., and what the optimal speed of the CDs should be, e.g., 4x, 8x, etc., or if that matters.
Apparently this machine has no trouble reading DVDs and CDs of all sorts, it just has some problems writing anything but coasters.
Thanks, I'd like to solve this for a friend.

There is no such thing as CD+R or CD+RW. CD-Rs can only be written to once. CD-RWs can be rewwitten. They are not good forever, however. In my expirience, they get about 30 writes. I couldn't tell what the top speed of your Combo drive is. The fastest CD-Rs that I am aware of are 52x, but they cost a bit more than 40x or 48x. You should burn discs at the highest speed on the disc or drive, whichever is lower.

I stick with what's cheap. Yesterday I got two (2) 50 packs of CD-R's at the local Staples for $3.19

Is it possible that something got disconnected when my friend removed the Airport Card from this machine? That's the only change he can narrow down between CDs burning and CDs not burning.
