Have an older G4 dual 450 system, 8xx something ram, 30 and 80 gig drives and running 10.2 something. Used to use it for Final Cut but since being squeezed into barracks housing, it's been sitting in its box in my closet for a while. Start it up every now and then.

Rather not put it in storage for a year for upcoming deployment but will if need be.

Tried to sell it to people back home but shipping it (from Hawaii) kills the deal, ebay is filled with them as it is and craigslist is filled with scammers.

Would it be more efficient to part it out.

It may not be more efficient to part it out, but you'd probably make more money. Also, while you may not make a truckload on the part itself via eBay, you can always try to make it up on shipping and handling costs.

A small amount of care will render eBay and craigslist useful places to sell items. You are right to be careful, but the same amount of caution applies everywhere, local deals or elsewhere.

If you're tired of having it around, you might consider giving it to a hospital's children's ward, but the problem is that such places expect donations to be more recent and more useable, otherwise they go to waste because no one has modern apps to install and use, so you'd have to do more work this way yourself.

You could try eBay and local pickup only if shipping is a problem. Wait for a 10 cent sales day and it won't cost you much to sell it, just final value fees when it sells, and set your minimum price to something reasonable.

What are you looking to get for it? I'm looking for an older G3/G4 machine, so PM me if you want to talk.

I use a dual G4 for work, and it's still a damn good system. If you cannot get a decent price for it on eBay, prices must have really fallen since the last time I looked.
