Office 2008 Update & Register

Office 2008 recently asked me to update and I did and now I everytime I open a program the Office Assistant appears asking me to participate in their Customer Experience program then to go online using a Microsoft Live ID to register again.
Anybody else have the same problem? Also, I thought 2008 was supposed to be faster and run better on an Intel Mac? Runs slower on my MBP...

Right. Office 2008 is Intel native and only Microsoft can make a native program run slower--but it does.

It was a bit slow before SP1 (v12.1), now it's not so bad. It's so much more stable than 2004 I can't imagine going back.

According to Microsoft, the reason Office Setup Assistant is running is because you have entered an invalid license the first time you installed, and SP 1 blacklisted the pirated number. In no way am I accusing you of pirating, but that's the tone Microsoft has set when they provided a solution to this issue.
I had this happen to me as well, and I had the friggin' Office 2008 box in front of me, with the code I had entered from the initial install! I called Microsoft and got it straightened out, but it was a pain because I paid for the license and now I was being accused of stealing it.

You need to remove all Office using "remove office" and search another SN in that way that the resulting ID in the application don't be ----502---.
Then follow with the install and you can update without problems. In case that your SN resulting in 502 last update blocks the normal application launch

What you're seeing is most likely the result of you having said "Yes" to
the question during your installation that asked, "Are you willing to
participate in the customer experience improvement program?
This is an anonymous program where you allow your software to send
Microsoft feedback about how it's doing. It should never transmit
anything personally identifying about you or any information that you
are creating, but if you're uncomfortable you can disable this in any
Office 2008 application's preferences under "Feedback".
Quit and then restart Office.
Before removing and reinstalling Office, you may give that a go.
