Those were interesting computers. FYI, the max OS for that system is 7.6.1. Sorry, no OS 8 in your future on that system.

Regarding older systems, I had a small collection 3-4 years back, but I've since given them all away. I felt like I had a computer graveyard...

Huh? I thought those were able to run 8.1 (slowly).

I ALWAYS wanted to have a few Classic macs. But I need a use for these machines. I could use a file server at home but for serving files through a gigabit pipe you need a serious machine so those old machines are useless for that.

I had this idea once to take a PowerMac 6100 box and make it into a music player (with a mini-ATX pc in it..) but I have no idea how I would manage the interface..

Anybody know a good classic mac that can be put to use today ? I guess I could buy an SE/30 to put somewhere as furniture (I learned computers on an SE/30).

You can install OS8 if you hack it. Search for "OS8 on 030 Macs" or something like it.

Max RAM is 36MB (4MB installed, 32MB simm). I have one like this. Been playing with it for awhile.

Nice! Those all-in-one's are nice vintage Macs to have around. They are nice and compact and easily storable, and if you're gonna use it it doesn't take up that much space.

I too had a few vintage Macs until I moved and gave most of them away. The only one I kept was this gem:

Anyone have an idea on what one of these hot items would sell for?

On eBay, around $20.

I'd love to have one of those, it's the first Mac model I ever really used!

Yeah me too. It was originally me Dad's computer for his work. And when he'd lug it home I got to mess with it. Then it became mine after he upgraded. It is definitely the Mac that made me a junkie. I made the coolest animation using SuperPaint on that thing. Oh man, them were the days.

Ahh, I see your angle. Say it's only worth $20 and maybe he'll sell it to you for that price.

Depends on what OS version you want. You can download System 6.0.5 through 7.5.3 for free from Apple:

http://download.info.apple.com/Apple.../Older_System/

For a Classic, I think 6.0.8 would probably be ideal. 7.0.1 maybe. 7.5.3... only if you've maxed out the RAM - that thing is a hog compared to older versions. Actually, given that the Classic only supports 4 MB of RAM, I probably wouldn't try 7.5.3 on it. I'd stick with 6.0.8, unless you have some software that requires System 7 to run. Unfortunately, 7.0.1 is a bit buggy. It's too bad 7.1 never got released for free... that was a pretty solid system.

I love the Color Classic. My favorite classic Mac of all time.

I'd love one, too. But they're rather coveted, so units in good condition sell for irrationally high prices.
