I know that ordering on line is risky but sometimes that is about the only way to go. My daughter and granddaughter recently moved back in with us and in the process lost the power cord to the granddaughter's iMac G4. These are rather unique cords and not available locally. I did some Google searching and found one at Headgap Systems Inc. in Tennessee. Place an order for a cord at $12.99 including shipping and they send the wrong damn cord. The one I got looks like one for a boombox or VCR, not even a computer application. I emailed them and got no response. Called and got told to pack the wrong cord up and and mail it back to them and they would then send the right one. It turns out that it would take me an hour and about $6.00 in gas to go mail the thing. It is easy to see that it would cost me more than I have already paid so I told them to cram it. Instead I am spending time venting here. With the wrong cord they send a listing of a lot of used Mac stuff. So, if you are looking to buy something and run across Headgap, be warned.

Thanks for the warning.

I hope you paid with a credit card.

Dispute the charge with your CC provider. That should do the trick.

You know you CAN buy one of those justabout anywhere, right?
Its a standard power cord, less common than the Kawasaki cable thats
a rectangle with the corners rounded off, but still not particularly unusual.

Or this'll do.

922-5035 Cable, Power: Cord, US / Canada, Apple Mac iPod

Yes, as far as I know all modern Macs have used standard power cables.

it is some weirdo cable though...

edit: go to radioshack!
RadioShack.com - Power & Batteries: Surge protectors & power cords: Power & extension cords: Compaq Notebook 6 Ft. AC Power Cord with Right-Angle Plug

edit#2 here is a good thread I found by searching google "imac g4 power cable"
WTB/Need To Buy: iMac G4 AC power cord - Mac Forums

the technical name for the "special end" is called "IEC320-C5" common name: "mickey mouse" cable

search google for "IEC320-C5" and you will find plenty of places that sell it for MUCH cheaper...

edit#20(?)

at radio shack ask about Catalog #: 61-2868 (thats the cable you need)
radio Shack: 431 Gilmer Ave, Tallassee, AL - (334) 283-8880
Radio Shack: 2516 Berryhill Rd, Montgomery, AL - (334) 395-7290‎
